YouFibre

And I’m booked. 6th Sept is scheduled.

If anyone has any IPv6 setup instructions please feel free to shout up as I’d like to dual stack v4 and v6
Now that ipv6 is working I'm able to get a thinkbb graph:

As far as ipv6 setup on the Asus router it's set to:
Connection Type: Native
DHCP-PD: Enable
Auto Configuration Setting: Stateless

Seems to give a /56

Nice graph, @stooeh - do you have QoS/SQM enabled, or just plugged in and away?

Just plugged in but I'm sure there will be spikes during heavy download, I'll grab something on steam - see if it can max the 2gbit and see what effect it has on the graph

Maybe I should set up some QoS but tbf everything downloads so quick and none of fam complain about their video streaming :p

Haha, na it's fairly pointless on a line that fast. Your result isn't 'oof' at all. That's pretty good going, especially for off the shelf hardware. Nothing to worry about there at all, and it's nice to see the 2 gig connection stretching its legs, I'll be ordering imminently. Which router did they supply you? And would you mind trying an upload test (eg iperf3 to Clouvider or Init7) while downloading to test the symmetric throughput? Either way, that's a nice connection so enjoy it!

The packet loss is quite worrying though. Looks like the network is having some congestion problems.
I'll be honest, posting at 3.45am (thanks kids!) without my glasses I didn't see that. Less likely to be congestion at ~11pm and perhaps more likely the router de-prioritising ICMP during a heavy download. Be interesting to test further though.

Use my referral link and we both get a decent discount :)

That would make sense but then if you look at the top left side:

Approx 3 or 4% packet loss every hour or so even when downloads aren't being done, no reason to drop those icmp. In comparison here is BT: https://i.imgur.com/bBY622S.png

Not a single dropped packet. It could be some weirdness with IPv6 or CGNAT. Would be curious to see this on a static IPv4 address.

If you’re on the CG-NAT then it could just be the Youfibre border or NAT process dropping packets. In this instance I don’t think a TBB graph is the best way of judging this as the IP it’s pinging probably isn't on your router.

Could do with a little smokeping instance set up from your LAN to the outside world (1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8 whichever is quicker).

My ipv4 is using CGNAT so I have the BQM set up to ping router ipv6 address instead.

Not used iperf much before, tried a few servers I could find online and this was one of the better results:

Hi folks,

Currently with EE/BT former customer paying £38.25 for 500 down, Youfibre have just cabled the area and are ready to go, get lots of emails to sign up.

A bit concerned about their EEro router ( I live in a 3 bedroom chalet bungalow with upstairs as well, solic block walls downstairs) I have tried the Eero a number of years ago when I was with Talktalk, didn't like it all for wireless coverage.

The BT Hub 2 I am using with EE is good, seems to cover all the rooms, but I understand I can't use that with Youfibre.

I don't want to pay an extra £7 a month to get extra EEro units as that defeats the purpose of keeping costs down. I know they do an Arris router as well, but don't know much about it.

Any advice advice about routers gratefully accepted.
Many thanks,
Joe

I got given the arris router on the 1gb connection. Dramatic drop off in speed from upstairs but certainly still useable

I ordered the 2Gb service yesterday. I need to install OPNsense on my router and order a couple of 2.5Gb switches. I've been looking at the YuanLey YS25-0801 8 port 2.5Gb & 1 port SPF+ with 120W PoE+ for £85. It seems for the price it's about as good as one can expect. I can downlink to my existing Netgear ProSafe managed switch for legacy devices, and have 10G uplink for the router in future. I wanted to go full fibre through the house with 10G, but most of my devices are actually 2.5G by design (SBC, NAS, SFF PCs, desktop) so this makes more sense in the interim.

Absolute joke. So the street I live on kind of went live... I say kind of because most of the street (16 houses) is live besides 3 or 4 houses. Guess if I'm one of those 3 or 4 houses or not. :)

It literally makes no sense. Months ago they were like "Sorry the schematics given by Openreach were not accurate" but you would also think that the houses being served YouFibre that are about 10 metres away also have the same ducting. It's honestly like some conspiracy theory against me.

I contacted Netomnia and got some response: "The situation does seem unusual, especially given that some of your neighbors have access to our service. The "build on hold" status can sometimes affect different parts of a street differently due to the phased nature of our network expansion. This can result in some properties being connected while others, even just a few doors away, are not yet included."
