YouFibre

Ended up pulling my install with YF today. It failed week before last due to weather and I’m going to pay £10 more per month for 900mb upload I won’t use.

That and they wouldn’t allow for any discount despite quoting some others figures in here.
If I resign I’ll use your code @immy

I notice they have put the price up a couple of pounds across some of their packages.
150mbps upto £23.99 was 21.99 few months ago
1 gig package is now £31.99, was £29.99 2 months ago.
2gig and 8gig have stayed the same.

For what its worth, apart from the initial teething issues with install on services, my experience has been trouble free. Consistent speeds compared to my old copper bt network

I got given the arris router on the 1gb connection. Dramatic drop off in speed from upstairs but certainly still useable
I also have the arris router as i need at least 3 ethernet ports near router end for various hubs and a server and the eero only had 2. I also find wifi weak in the house even with an arris x5042 extender. I cant seem to buy another one and don't want to rent one from youfibre. Will other brands work ok?

Alternatively any suggestions of a reasonably priced router plus extender or mesh system wifi 6 to cope with 1Gb connection, which have 3 spare ethernet ports?

Arris router drops signal n speed rapidly the futher you get. I picked up Linksys Atlas Pro 6 AX5400 which is readily available for around £40 single unit or 3 for £110 on a auction site.

As a comparison...on my 1gb connection. Upstairs in my home office (most problematic room in my house) , the arris router (located in living room downstairs) gives me 130mbps on my iphone. linksys mesh gives me 430mbps; If i hardwire my computer to the linksys node and test, it gives me 650mbps.
The linksys pro units have 4 ports on each of the nodes.

Edit : i should really turn the wifi off totally from the arris router as that is also probably causing a confict with the linksys wifi lowering its speed.

Better yet just completely remove the arris all together and just directly hook the Linksys up to the ONT.

Hi folks,

Youfibre are currently installing in my area so hopefully should be able to join them for the 1Gbps service soon. I don't know if i will get the eero or arris modem/router but my plan is to upgrade theexisting mesh (Tenda Nova MW5) to a 6E mesh and looking for some advice.

Does anyone have any experience of the Tenda MX21 Pro mesh system? It seems to be far and away the best value for money tri-band 6E mesh network?

Are you able to change settings in the eeror or arris that youfibre provide? I've heard mixed messages about them being locked down but Ideally I'd switch whatever the give into modem only mode and let the mesh sort the rest.

Thanks

The arris is fully accessible to make changes.

I have a phone line hooked into the arris. No phone line connector on the ONT
Ah that's such a shame. Seem like YouFibre have went backwards then. Years ago the Adtran ONT they supplied people came with phone line ports on the ONT itself (Adtran SDX 622v).

When I had my install done last year I noticed the engineer was going to use the Adtran SDX 621 ONT (Single 10GbE Port) along with the Arris Router. I already had my own router I was wanting to use but had subscribed to YouPhone when I signed up, just explained got the engineer that I knew YouFibre also supplied the Adtran SDX 622v with the phone line ports built in otherwise I'd need to have my own router and the Arris router setup just for the phone service.

The engineer agreed it would be stupid and said no problem, he didn't have one on his van so drove back to his depot and picked one up for me. He later told me that he didn't know the difference between the ONT's as he hadn't had any need to use the 622v before and would start carrying them on his own van going forward. I think he also said that for services over 1GB the 622v would be used but all of his installations he had done since joining YouFibre had only been for 1GB service, obviously take that with a pinch of salt and things could've easily of changed by now.

It could be worth in future asking before the installation starts what version of ONT will be used to avoid any issues with using your own router if you are subscribing to YouPhone.

It makes sense though for YouFibre to standardise their equipment going forward as it'll be cheaper for them and makes life much easier for YouFibre Support to only deal with one type of router and ONT.

Good to know. I may well ask the question to support to see if they will come out and upgrade my ONT so i dont need an extra device sitting around just for the phoneline. Plug sockets are limited as it is.

So I spoke to YF on Facebook chat and the process takes 3 - 5 working days!

Refund has been sent to my account in the above timelines :)
I submitted my claim on sunday, so hopefully, i should see an update end of this week. Sky only sent me a email to tell me about termination charges rather than a full name address titled invoice. Hopefully i dont need to go chasing sky for this.

Hey Bud, mine came through to my account within a day or so, so fingers crossed for you, VM posted my final invoice so I could use that!

Funny enough, just as i posted earlier, they have sent me email saying the £100 quid is on its way to my account. Good service.,

It might be worth a go but as I said my install was almost a year ago and things can change very quickly. Hope you can get lucky:)
