YouFibre

Never had any issues when using a static IP for over 15 years. Where is your email hosted?
Sorry I worded that wrong. I just meant that email addresses (gmail, hotmail etc) will eventually get exposed via data breaches and then the phishing emails gradually flow in. "You have won a Ninja air fryer from Currys please login to claim", "You have a package from UPS" or "Your Apple ID is compromsied" etc etc. If that stuff still works in 2023 and with how widespread the internet is, I can only see people doing proper hacks growing.

If all these multi billion dollar companies can get hacked then a normal user exposing themselves further with a static ip and a normal router must be pretty easy. It only takes a couple of hacks till you get a whale to make it worth your time.

From my reading peer to peer just doesn't work on cgnat which makes sense. Quite annoying if you play older games or fighting games. Basically just means whatever price YouFibre show add £5 to that. 150/150 for £26.99 is still very reasonable.

@hdpcgamer You get moved to the no contract price structure. 150 goes to £29.99, 1000 at £39.99. In 2 years the prices will be changed anyway. Only recently was 500 Mbps £29.99. Now you get 1 Gbps for £27.99. Likely 2025 will see 1 Gbps go to £24.99 or similar.

Email phishing on a public cloud hosted service has next to nothing to do with whether you’re on a static IP address or not.

I think his point is rather that since an email address doesn't change, you're susceptible to unavoidable phishing attacks etc if that email gets onto a list somewhere.

And that if you have a static IP that can't change, once people start trying to attack it, they may not stop, whereas if you had CGNAT/Dynamic, this can be changed easily (unlike an email). :)

Keep your router/firewall up to date, job done. It doesn’t matter if it’s static or dynamic, it’s already being targeted. Just sniff incoming internet traffic and you can see.

Tell that to the multi billion dollar companies being hacked. Just keep your router up to date Sony!

Obviously there's more to it but yes every IP in the world is likely being scanned every day. I just personally think the chances of being more heavily targeted is higher which was the whole point.

YouFibre have cabled my estate and Ive had two door step chats with their reps about transferring over, they've offered to 'Buy Me Out' of my existing contract.
I'm currently with TalkTalk on Fibre 250 (g.fast - 250/50Mb/s) and Unlimited UK Calls for £42.00 per month until May 2024.

They've offered me You 1000 for £27.99 on a 24 month contract, that's not including home phone and before trying to haggle with them.

If I wanted to switch how would that work?

@Valo £27.99 is the standard price. You should sign up on their site if it's not live yet as you get a 10% early bird discount on your contract when it does go fully live. Atleast mention this to them when haggling. Should atleast be able to get £25.99

The buy out is max £300 so you'll have to wait till next month till they fully cover (42x8). Not bad to wait anyway since they have black friday deals soon. Likely will be £24.99 1 Gbps and £19.99 for 150 Mbps.

Good to know, thanks.

What would be the deal with my landline phone, anyone know?

I presume they make sure that the fibre line is active and then you give them your landline number to port which will cease your broadband with TalkTalk.

If the landline means a lot to you the best idea would be to take YouFibre without YouPhone. Get it installed then set up a port request with A&A for voip so that your landline is always separate from your broadband package. I thought about going to YouPhone as I like the elegent solution of just plugging the phone into the ONT itself so you have proper control over what router. However if you ever wanted to port out of YouFibre, A&A told me they don't know what the cupid code would be for them and don't have a direct agreement (don't know the hosting company presumably) so porting to someone else might be difficult.

This is the deal I've been offered by my local YouFibre Rep:

YouFibre buy me out of my TalkTalk contract including all fees
£50.00 Rep Discount + A referral payment from a future order he places.

You1000 Mbps - £27.99
YouPhone Pro - £12.00
Free Static IP

What do think, should I try and get the You1000 down to £25.99 by mentioning the website early bird offer?

@Valo For sure mention it. Remember they want your money. £12.99 is £0.99 more than the standard price of £12 so make sure that gets looked at. Including a static IP is pretty nice though, essentially taking £5 off your bill. I think £26.99 would be more than fair. You might be ok with just YouPhone Plus but obviously upto you and who you call.

Just realised I made a typo!:p It is £12.00 for YouPhone Pro :)

Just edited my post above to correct that.

Worth a try for sure. Just make sure they don't try to tell you they'll take the Static IP off, if you fight them for it they'll likely give you both the £25.99 and free static.

Signed up with my local YouFibre Rep:

My Deal
  • YouFibre buy me out of my TalkTalk contract including all fees.
  • £50.00 Rep Discount + A referral payment from a future order he places.
  • You1000 Mbps - £27.99
  • YouPhone Plus - £8.00 (Unlimited Anytime UK Landline Calls)
  • Free Static IP

£35.99 per month for 24 months. Installation on 26th October.

Tried to get something off the You1000 monthly cost but he wasn't budging :p

I was paying £42.00 per month with TalkTalk for Fibre 250 + Unlimited Anytime UK Landline and Mobile Calls:

£6.01 per month saving.
£72.12 per year saving.
£144.24 over 24 month contract.

I decided to go with just YouPhone Plus (Unlimited UK Landline calls) as looking over my TalkTalk bills last night, I found I didn't call a great deal of mobiles from the landline.

Don't think it's a bad deal!

I contacted my rep this week to see what deal they could get me and they said someone would be in touch. Not sure why it wouldn't be them themselves but anyway that was Friday morning and haven't heard anything since.

Will chase up on Monday.

My friend had the same experience... you'd have thought they'd want your money!

I know right? If they put the leaflet through your door with their mobile number on it you'd have thought they'd be the person to speak to!

Their prices look really good and I'm willing to give them a chance but it's not a good first impression.

What did your friend up doing? Chasing the rep or just contacting sales department direct? Or just gave up and go elsewhere?

He just ended up contacting sales department.

I think their sales team can 100% improve, however as an internet line I can't fault mine, nor can he! :)

It's worth it if you can get past the sales barrier haha.
