Your bad driving encounters

Noticed recently there's a huge amount of people driving around with either just one headlight working or one working and one barely holding on which makes judging their distance in the dark a right pain in the arse.
 
Strange one the other night. I was driving down the road (30mph in 30 limit) and a car behind me suddenly accelerates and brakes heavily a few inches from the back of my car and gives a blast of the horn, after 5 seconds or so they back off to a normal following distance. Initially I just thought they were being idiots wanting me to go faster as I was doing the speed limit and it was very quiet.

I got to a roundabout where they went past me, this is when I saw their boot was open and they where being followed closely themselves by a sprinter van.

Minor incident this morning with a paramedic ambulance forgetting the basic rule of 'give way to the right' on a roundabout (no lights/sirens). It wasn't too egregious but my thoughts turned to what if there was a patient on board and then the ambulance was delayed because it caused a collision.
 
Not bad driving but it's that time of the year again just after the clocks change where every car with a plate from the last few years is blinding me on the drive home just after 5PM. A lot of the auto headlight dip functions don't seem to activate in good time and as the drivers have the tool, they generally don't manually dip their lights.

Reminds me - been followed some of the way home at night several times recently by the same model Audi, not sure if same car, with matrix headlights. In the Qashqai it works perfectly, I'm in a dark zone and in the rear view it looks like their headlights are dim, but their lights are contributing to lighting up the surroundings making it much easier to see things. However in the pickup and some vans instead my wing mirrors turn into mini suns and I can barely see in front of me.

Nice technology when it works but it is far from perfect yet and very dangerous when it doesn't.

I came across this tonight at about 10:30pm in the Toddington services car park on the south bound M1. He was totally stranded on a raised concrete barrier at the side of the road and unable to move, just sitting there waiting for rescue. I assume he was either trying to get across to the petrol station on the other side without going the long way round or trying to park at the side (ignoring the almost empty car park spaces) and misjudged the drop on the other side. I don't think he was impressed with me taking a photo.

I didn't quite have the cheek to shout "You can't park there mate!"

I must admit with my super bright matrix lights on my SUV, I am getting a lot of people flash me. I can see the lights are working as intended and have darkened the area covering the oncoming car BUT I do have sympathy for low cars vs my high headlights in my SUV. Following somebody the other night with my headlights on dipped and I could see as I went over small bumps my headlights were shining into his car. But what can I do about that?

You must be new to SUV ownership. I have had this ever since 2012, when I bought a VW Tiguan with standard LED headlights. It was for my wife to drive with our new son.

It took weeks for me to realise the loads of people flashing me weren’t saying hello. Even on low beam I was getting flashed by drivers being “dazzled” in their much lower “normal” cars.

Don’t listen to the unbelievers, they can fix this by turning to the dark side and accepting their new SUV overlords. It is the way.

Ah. The people that flash at you will also be the same people that park facing oncoming traffic with their lights on.... Stuff em.
Although I do try and turn them off if I spot a HGV.. The lights dont seem to want to react quick enough for oncoming HGV's

I've driven in Sweden and Norway at night, you really don't want their HGVs flashing you.

People on this thread talking about Sun's in the mirrors from normal car headlights, even if they are Bi-Xenon or LED have seen nothing compared to the retina blindness that is a Scandinavian HGV flashing you because the auto high beam was a second slow to react.

You see a lot on the UK roads, especially if the trucks go rural and ours at work have light bar across the top full of headlights. Its like its daylight.

I get it a bit with the pickup, not so much with Qashqai or Tiguan though happens now and again. I've seen what it is like from the other way around and it isn't even that bad especially not compared with some of the dipped beams on some newer cars which are almost as bright as main beams on older cars.
 
Saw two cars getting justice. Car driving down a service road parallel to the road to skip the queues. Then couldn’t get out due to a removal lorry reversing as first house on the service road the people are moving

Another car - drove down the lined area of a road. Then came to a crossing island. No one would let him through.

Both Audis!
 
The thing I hate now is the early morning trip to Morrisons - We have to turn right at a T junction and if a newish car coming from either way has indicators on I can't see them in headlight unit -If they flash me out I only see them when turned out on raod.
I think a white van was the worst -It had a little tiny indicator light right in centre of unit.
 
I drive quite a bit for work so I've always had my own opinions on which cars' drivers were generally the worst - but my long-term number one has firmly been replaced after a trip up to the lakes this past weekend.

I can honestly say that every single Range Rover encountered during my trip has been driven by a complete and utter *****!

Everything from hanging off my bumper on the motorway to overtaking dangerously on a country lane, the Range Rover driver has consistently been the worst driving I've encountered in a very long time - with my own personal favourite being one instance of a driver trying to overtake a lorry in front of me towards the end of a dual carriageway, failing and then constantly weaving and bobbing, desperate to overtake - only for the tanker to take the same turning as this ****-**** off onto what I hope was a solid 15-miles of single track country lane with no opportunity to overtake! :cry: :cry: :cry:

Down South it is the Audi, followed by the BMW, followed by the next German car and surprisingly the Renault (usually older vehicle and at least one of the legal things missing) that is a complete and utter **** on the road.
Not sure if Nissan is still linked to Renault, but they can also be utter ***** (older cars)

I find that but with rear indicators in the headlamp units. They seem to be quite small now and hard to make out in some circumstances if the rest of the light is illuminated.

On the fronts (at least on my car) the DRL goes off when the indicator goes on.
 
People hogging the overtaking lane whether its motorway or dual carriageway there is always some douchebag doing the same speed as the slower moving traffic holding everyone up. I saw a SUV trying to get past but they refused to budge which ended up with everyone undertaking them. When you look into the car, they are so oblivious as to what is going on around them, they're just staring into space.
 
Was out on my bike today and came across 3 horse riders crossing the road, there was a car coming from the opposite direction and it stopped at least 10 metres away to let them pass, didn't blow his horn or rev his engine or anything. However the 3rd rider took great offence that his music was loud (wasn't that loud0 and was screaming at him to open his window and to turn the music down because it was scaring the horse.

She was completly oblivious to the fact that she was making far more noise than the car - looking for a fight for some reason.
