Your bad driving encounters

Was out on my bike today and came across 3 horse riders crossing the road, there was a car coming from the opposite direction and it stopped at least 10 metres away to let them pass, didn't blow his horn or rev his engine or anything. However the 3rd rider took great offence that his music was loud (wasn't that loud0 and was screaming at him to open his window and to turn the music down because it was scaring the horse.

She was completly oblivious to the fact that she was making far more noise than the car - looking for a fight for some reason.

Karen only rides once a week ;)

Throttle to the floor and dump clutch. Teach her the error of her ways.

I'd never have even considered turning my music down to be honest. Although to be fair I don't think I've ever come across horses when in the car only on the bike at which point I'll slow down and clutch in generally.

Imo if a horse is getting scared by music through closed windows, it shouldn't be anywhere near a road. I get they have 'rights' but common sense should dictate if a horse gets scared, don't go on the road, use one of those horseboxes.

Not really related to this thread but we don't really have a general car thread; dunno if there was some kind of event on Sunday but saw several very old style cars - 1910-20 kind of era, looked like reproductions rather than originals, and it struck me they were all higher off the ground than most modern SUVs people moan about heh - the seat height on most of them was around the same, or slightly higher, as my pickup.

Or the guy who almost hit me on a pelican crossing and then wanted me to have a fair fight with him because I dared to tell him to use his eyes.

They are normally like that because people back down so they get cocky for the next time... They usually buckle if any kind of resistance is shown back to them.

EDIT - I should add I dont mean actually fighting them but just not backing away and calmly but firmly telling them to get back in their car normally tempers their "anger"

I drive a mixture, though I need to double check/see if there is anything wrong with the Navara as I thought the auto-lights were looped in with the rain sensor but last couple of times it doesn't seem to have put the headlights on. So I do need to be careful not to forget to turn the headlights on in poor visibility daytime conditions :(

Quoting my own post but with the weather recently had a chance to play with it, the headlights only come on automatically with the wipers if the (auto)wipers are on the 2 fastest settings, on intermittent or normal they don't come on.

I find that but with rear indicators in the headlamp units. They seem to be quite small now and hard to make out in some circumstances if the rest of the light is illuminated.

On the fronts (at least on my car) the DRL goes off when the indicator goes on.
I don’t like the pulsing lights for indicators.

a few days after I got my 350z I was driving on an A road and white van man was trying to climb into my boot. an animal jumped out in front of me, I didn't emergency stop but did slow down significantly. how the van didn't rear end me I will never know . at the next junction he pulled in front of me blocking me so I could not get past , got out of his van and went ballistic. he said I should have hit the animal and not been precious about my car (albeit with many expletives). he also said he had his toddler in the van who may have been hurt. he did.. with no car or booster seat

I mentioned that he should perhaps look at his highway code to work out safe distances , that he should get a child seat ... (and then sank to his level by saying I felt sorry for his kid as with a dad like hers she didn't have much chance in life)

I thought he was gonna hit me but thankfully he didn't. he then tailgated me even more until I eventually got fed up and put my foot down.
I get some people have temper tantrums ... and also people can make mistakes, but going off on one when they are clearly in the wrong I just don't get

if I almost rear ended someone my instinctive reaction would be to apologise.

I had one this morning, at a merge point after coming off a dual lane roundabout. I was in the right lane which merges into the left, came up on the right nice and steady getting towards the merge point nice gap in between the car in front and the car behind me to my left.
Get to the merge point and the doughnut behind me decides to put his foot down to take up the space, by that point my options were either carry on and call their bluff or stop dead and probably get shunted from behind. Carried on until he got the message and let me move over. They then proceeded to sit in my boot for the next mile while constantly weaving looking for the overtake that was never going to happen.

When they shot past me at the next roundabout in their battered old golf with the illegal number plate and almost black lights it all made sense.

Merge points are such a pain in the backside.

Indeed. So many people insist you have to get into singlefile way before the merge point and queue otherwise it's considered "Cutting in".

It's retarded.

Merge points are fine if people understand how they work and park their egos for a minute.

They argue that it doesnt make traffic flow quicker because "its the same amount of cars whether in a single file or 2 lanes trying to get into the same lane". They cant comprehend that, by having 2 x shorter lines of traffic, it allows junctions and roundabout further back to remain unblocked and allowing traffic on those junctions to keep flowing.... Nope, its all about them.

Absolutely, the theory of merge in turn is great. I can probably count on one hand the number of times it actually goes to plan though :o

I had someone almost go into the back of me yesterday, and I didn't brake that hard or come to a stop, when a pedestrian just walked out into the road in front of me and the driver behind was obviously irritated with me and I had similar thoughts - it is entirely on them being too close.

I then had someone just walk out pushing a bike across the dual-carriageway which meant I had to slow down a bit to give them a safe margin just as someone behind me was slotting in between the car behind me and myself, which made things a little less than ideal.

Didn't you know it's never their fault for almost hitting your car  .

I'm the bad driver!

Entered motorway from a slip road and got caught by a camera - 69 in 60. I must have missed the signs saying it was a 60, not a 70 :(

Speed Camera Details: Following the completion of a upgraded 3-lane dual carriageway, new VECTOR average speed cameras have been installed on the Eastbound section, replacing the temporary SPECS cameras sited during the roadwork's. Following the completion of the roadwork's, the speed limit on this section of road has been reduced from 70mph to 60mph. The first pair of VECTOR cameras are sited on the exit slip road onto the A1139 (Fletton Parkway) from the A1 junction 17.
Paperwork sent off - clean licence for many years, guess it's gonna come back 3 points and £100 :(

£90 and Speed Awareness course offered - bit their hand off.
