If it came to that all hope would have been lost there would be no point fighting. The UKs only asset has always been it's navy. People like to laugh at France but if it wasn't for the channel the panzers would be parading in London within 7 days.

What you don't understand is that for sensible people fighting in a war is completely unthinkable. Life is not call of duty mate.

But the whole point of this document that was released is if **** hits the fan. The uk is under threat of invasion, if the uk is under threat then the whole world will be.

So it’s weird watching people come up with random reasons not to fight, if they said they were pacifists then yeah I could understand find a role like medical etc.

But the I don’t like this country for xyz so I’m not gonna fight the Russians is ******* odd. Because you might not like xyz but Russia really loves things like rape, murder, kidnapping, theft, people trafficking…

It’s like saying if I was around in 1938 I won’t fight the nazis because I’m not a fan of either the torries or the Liberal Democrat’s…
 
I don't think saying you're not really willing to lay your life down, especially if it means dying in some foreign land, for some people who are more than willing to wage war with the lives of the indispensable (you and I) but they wouldn't risk their own children, should count as edgy.

Personally I think everyone saying they'd play hero from the comfort of their homes are the edgy ones. **** easy to act the hardman in a moment of comfort.

Smart people developed nukes so we don't have fight pointless wars and every country has been on the evil side at least once in its history.
 
Frontline soldiers are redundant since July 16 1945.

You need to take that into account when you say fight for your country, i wouldn't be fighting for the UK, I'd be fighting for some politician or businessman.

We are all allowed to have our opinion on the subject. I personally would leave if possible. I've lived through a war and I know what it does to people. Brings out worse in people no matter what side you are on.
Doubt I would be much use anyways with my mental health problems which are result of war.
 
Tbf if they need a sandbag I could probably manage that with my body shape.

It would be interesting to see all the "me first groups" and why they want to have their equal share in everything, somehow I doubt they would want first call up on this though.

I’ve stated this repeatedly,
The process would be
Reserves
Recently discharged (me as less than 10 years)
Legacy discharged (over 10 years but under the age threshold)
Select trade relief (I.e logistics, admin and pioneering) ( this would be the first set of drafts)
Then everyone else. But they would be in non combat roles ( mainly cheese and pickle maybe some egg and cress)

But this is so hypothetical, the likelihood Russia being able to overcome Europe is next to null. So if you’re factor the us in it becomes impossible

If Russia attacks Sweden, Norway or Finland we signed a defence pact to defend them.

If they were attacked and we got involved I can see Putin launching a missile at us. He's already committed acts of death a few times on British soil and we've never replied back.

Presumably, this is an attempt to shift the needle in public discourse on the military. There was a bit of an uptick in support of the armed forces in the immediate aftermath of the Russian invasion of Ukraine but since then it's back to ''more money for the NHS/Education etc''. Not unworthy causes to be sure but the peace dividend that Europe and ourselves have had for the last 30 years has put us into this situation where we are not a credible force. I understand that as part of the 2010 spending review, the cost of the nuclear deterrent was moved from the treasury to the MOD budget which is effectively a cut in of itself even before you get to austerity cuts ontop of that.

Politicians will largely follow public opinion, if the voters don't care it won't get any attention. Imo if the public won't support increased military spending (and therefore cuts to other areas/increased borrowing/increased taxes) then we should get rid of the nuclear deterrent and spend that cash on conventional forces. What we have been doing for the last 30 years cannot continue.

Where is the order for a 1:1 replacement? The 6th gen GCAP/Tempest is over a decade away, and the F35 acquisition is slow due to us not wanting to pay to upgrade older planes to the block 4 standard that is due in 2029. Lets just hope nothing kicks off between now and then!
