Your country needs YOU!

Absolutely, a spotty 18-25 year will stand zero chance against a hard assed 35 year staff sergeant with a few tours under his belt :) I dare say some of them will stay in as well for a good few years as once you are over the initial 6 month of being bullied, harassed, indoctrinated, brain wiped it is a bloody good life and one of the best things I ever did. Hell you could go German way where they end up being ambulance drivers. If your a fatty then you get put in the fatty battalion/regiment and welcome to a world of more exercise than your used to. Better for you, better for the country in the long run.

As for those with an apparent conflict of interest, then GTFO and your on a plane to your homeland. We gave you a education for free so deal with it.

They would be ******* themselves laughing when some washed up barracks army bro tries to give them an order  Get a grip mate normal people find the army hilarious, we make video games and movies out of it.

I would like to see them laugh when they take a punch to the belly and they are doubled up on the floor gagging for air.... You dont see that in a video game though. everyone would tow the line sooner or later and the so called hard asses would soon tow the line when everyone else starts taking **** for them. You might be hard but your not as hard as 4 of soon to be best mates giving you a hard time.

Accidents happen of course and it would be no loss to society either.

The story doing the rounds today is if the UK is involved in a future war the public might be required to join the armed forces.

What are peoples views on it?

I think in the event Russia attacked other European countries then I'd do my part, as it's a rerun of the start of WW2 when Hitler took over Czechslovakia, and then attacked Poland. We'd be in the firing line anyway.

I think this is a signal that we should be having a national service like they do in Nordic countries.

The more important thing behind all this is the way the government has run the armed forces down to a level that it just isn't fit for purpose. There is a very real threat of war at the moment. The politicians should be the very first who are drafted.

We have learned enough in recent decades about the outright lies governments make in order to pursue regime changes for wrongful reasons.
Iraq, Libya, Syria.

Constantly getting countries into NATO to surround Russia.
Since 2004 - Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Albania, Croatia, Montenegro, North Macedonia

Nobody wants to fight for UK provoking foreign wars.
Nobody wants to fight when its majority demographic are constantly prejudiced against, positive discrimination in jobs which is rife everywhere.

There is no patriotic belonging here now which you would need to rely on when trying to get civilians to fight for your country. You have continually eroded away national identity and you reap what you sow.

Yep, the culture has been diluted and is dying thanks to a couple of decades of prioritising causes which aren't British, which we dont really care about but have to pretend to. It's just another country now. It's not like old times.

At best, I'd be in the new version of Dad's Army.....

And it would be the woke versrion, too!

Ignoring Ukraine Russia right now has somewhere around 300K ground forces, a few 100 modern(ish) tanks, probably 2-2.5K serviceable armoured fighting vehicles, something of an air force but crippled by years of poor maintenance and lacking investment, most of their war reserves and stockpiles have been used up in Ukraine, etc. etc. they are barely sufficient to defend Russia let alone go on the offensive.

But I'm not talking about Russia vs a single European nation. I"m talking about Russia vs NATO.

Moreover, which European nation is Russia supposed to be invading in your hypothetical? A non-NATO state like Moldova, or a NATO state like Finland? The moment a NATO state is attacked, Russia has lost already. The resulting conflict would be like a war between science fiction super-soldiers and apes with muskets.

I hope if we do get involved in a conflict Putin realises we will be invading Russia...and we're used to crap weather.

I take it you are referring to anyone north of Manchester only in this and not the Southern Softies further South? - oh the comments incoming :p

No mate, they would still continue to cross the channel in unsafe little boats illegally.

Just the other way.

Its funny that... When a pile of Britons move to another country from the UK and set up communities, they are called "Ex-Pats"... When foreigners are coming to the UK, we call them immigrants setting up ghettos

Iraq, Libya, Syria.

We didn't start any wars with Libya or Syria. Nor have we ever advocated regime change in either country on false pretences.

Constantly getting countries into NATO to surround Russia.

'Surround Russia'? My brother in Christ, have you heard of this crazy new thing called geography? It's gonna blow your mind!

Also, we're not 'constantly getting countries into NATO', they are constantly asking to join NATO because they keep getting invaded and threatened by Russia.

The hypothetical under consideration is a defensive war against a Russian offensive. Try again.

“The best argument against Democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter.”

No attribution. Though he sometimes despaired of democracy’s slowness to act for its preservation, Churchill had a more positive attitude towards the average voter.
