Your current Fish tank Setups!

I had a major snail problem with my tank so I decided to transfer all the fish into a smaller tank and gut my 64l one out, was a lot of hassle tbh, I'm not sure if this is conventional or not but I soaked the gravel in boiling water, and cleaned all the dec's thoroughly, I used the same filter, I had a bit of a bacterial bloom but it seemed to clear after a couple of days, all fish (touch wood) seems ok.

While cleaning my tank one of my pakistani loaches actually jumped out of the mini tank!, my GF spotted it and managed to pick it up with her bare hands and put back in the tank, it actually bit her and drew blood!!, unbelievably it seems fine lol

Anyway not as fancy as many tanks on here but here is it is all cleaned up and not a snail in site!!!

Definitely would like a bigger tank, my GF has a 120litre with external filter and that's lovely, I'm thinking about getting an external filter for my 64l tank but wondering if that would be over doing it for a tank that size?

The pump no longer works and although i don't really know much about keeping fish properly it looked to do a bit of a **** job. So instead of paying £40 to replace it i would keep it just for the LED and stick a new filter behind it. If i stick to the Fluval U series like Unicorn mentioned i should be okay?

Fluval filters are generally good, I would use the one designed for the tank but if you don't want to the U1 is probably overkill, the mini should do just fine. You can't really stock much in the tank due to its dimensions. I would look at a review on you tube to see which is best for your tank.

I hadn't realised you had fish in there - I would reduce feeding to once every other day at the most (I feed my fish 2-3 times a week maximum) as overfeeding may be playing a part.

If you can I would be tempted to take them out while you're cycling but that's your call.

I don't see CO2 would help in the short term for cycling but CO2 would be a good idea for plant health going forwards.

Just done a 25% change, I'll see how it all goes :)

Can anyone identify what this is? Some sort of fungus? Tank is 7 months old and the wood has been in it all that time. Looks like white fluff.

Looks like uneaten food to me. Either way it's a type of fungus.

I would remove all traces, do a 25% water change and cut feeding down to 2-3 times a week at the most, and don't over feed.

Fluval are ok but I’ve been so impressed with my Rena canister filter. I have owned two (sold XP L with smaller tank) and got the XP XL when I was given my Vision 260. I must have had XP L for 4 years before selling (still going strong) and the XL has been going for 4-5 years without any issues.

If you are likely to upgrade in future then I would buy a filter that would do the job in your bigger tank and just ensure the filter has a spraybar with an adjustable flow, that way it won’t be too much water movement for the tank from the spraybar, plus it gives you a bit of future-proofing.

Thanks mate, think I'll pick myself one up then and use the spray bar, it also gives me a good excuse to upgrade my in the future knowing I'll have a filter that will handle a bigger tank.

Lost a little Endler today :( I guess my tank cleaning mission was a bit much for the little fella.

Done a 25% change on Tuesday, tested this morning and ammonia/nitrite/nitrate have shot up :(

I just want it to settle! Shall I do another 25% or do 59%? Also,I have some old filter media in the tank, should I think of removing this?

Give us some info, Current stock, tank size what filter your using, lighting per day, water (tap or ro) + what conditioner your using

Also what are your readings for pH, Ammonia, Nitrite and Nitrate.

Im sure with that we can sort you a little plan out :)

Reduce ur lighting to 6 hours unless u have complex plants for a start else nitrate will give u lovely algae

High range PH: about 8
Ammonia: 0.50 ish.
Nitrite: high, guessing 5.0
