Your current Fish tank Setups!

For tropical id pick whatever tank you like the look of and budget to replace the supplied usually cheap equipment + any decorations/plants etc

My tropical tanks were always fluval.

Hell of a skimmer. I was tempted to change mine but its finally pulling dark coffee now after all this time. I don't want to restart the bedding in process with a new skimmer and find it's sweet spot once more

I loved my deltec but for no reason at all its just startrd to need daily adjustment, increasing the water level on its own, over producing under producing just got a bit sick of it.

Spook was right for once tho, the nyos skimmers are a beautifull piece of equipment, very well made and seems like a quality piece of equipment, thick materials nothing flimsy etc.

Will take some dialing in like you say but hopefully be worth it in the end!

And the overpriced side!

Not a fan of the maxspect stuff tbh, always looked upon it like a chinese brand if you get my meaning

I haven't looked at the price, I saw the size of it next to a guy reviewing it and knew i'd never have a tank that needs it.

I think Maxspect started out as a cheap Chinese company but are now pretty decent. Some of their pumps look pretty good.

Why breed Neons? Bit of an odd choice to me, they are farmed on an insane industrial scale in the Far East and don’t really exhibit any particularly interesting behaviour due to being egg scatters.

Stuff like Angel fish, Cory catfish and betas have far more interesting breeding behaviour (to me). Getting rid of the fry is a much bigger challenge of course.

back to neons, you don’t need peat, you just need really soft water and they’ll just do it. They are prolific breeders (hence the price and popularity). The proper breeders have tanks with false bottoms that the eggs drop through but the fish can’t get to. Neons will just eat their own eggs without it or some kind of breading mop.

Upgrade day today.

Tight fit but its in there :)

Great skimmer, have the same one. Went a bit awry recently but eventually found that a baby trochus snail had managed to die in the intake! Also managed to smash a bit of plastic off the bottom of the cup on mine :/. Still works perfectly though!

Having trouble dialing it in at the moment but its new so guess it just needs a few days of bedding in before its worth messing with it.

Hopefully its as good as spook told me it is or will be all his fault

I also had trouble dialling it in. I have the main intake fully open and just use the screw to adjust. For me the sweet spot was to have the screw most of the way open. The small air intake screw I have about halfway closed.
