Your favourite GTA game ?

of course it's personal preference but i don't know where ppl get off comparing Saints Row to the GTA series.

i could just never get into SR @ all ....sure it looked ok and all but it didn't have the humour of GTA and i just though it was an ok game without being special.

i think IV is a step up from the others, but on reflection after a few days play not as good as i'd hoped..... 3 will always be my favorite because it was 'the' landmark release which blew me away initally.

SA
GTAIV (based on so far).
VC
III

Never played 1 & 2 and like an earlier poster I tried LC Stories on the PSP but handheld just too fiddly for this PC gamer.

I think GTAIV will grow to be my favourite though that might be dependent on a PC version coming out.

SA still gets the top vote as it was so expansive, weeks if not months of gameplay but I must admit it did seem to drift a bit towards the end. Some of the side missions only became available towards the end when all you wanted to do was finish. Having skimmed through the Brady Guide (no spoilers) it seems IV is much tighter plot and gameplay wise, possibly at the expense of longevity.

VC was very good but coming to it from SA, felt the lack of features the (then) newest version could offer.

Re the voice talent, as I've mentioned on a couple of other threads (but no one picked up on), seems Rockstar have gone with no-name actors for IV, or at least pseudonyms as one or two sound familiar...

Vice City on PC for capturing superbly the setting, style and taste of the 80's
Oh and what a soundtrack!!!

the original gta comes a close second - nothing will ever beat two player gta on a 486 dx2 and a p150, oh the fun too be had positioning buses at the end of the bridge jumps :D

Vice City was the best, no other game has left me feeling at the end like I truly own the whole city :D

I'd have to say GTAIV comes in second, I've really enjoyed the story and the diversity of the missions, the new cover system is a nice addition but it should have been implemented much better. San Andreas is close behind in third and I wasn't a huge fan of GTA III so I'd have to say that comes last out of the GTA games I've played.

As for Saints Row, don't get me wrong its a good game but it's LEAGUES behind any of the GTAs. Once you've played the game for 90 minutes you've done everything, the rest of the game is just telling you to go and do it again in a different location. If you like such a repetetive style of gameplay then that's up to you but the lack of effort in the mission design is what lets the game down so much for me. Then you've got the combat, I'm not claiming GTA to be anywhere near realistic but in SR it gets seriously dull killing everyone with such ease, at least in GTA it does require you to go behind cover occasionally.

You can have your voice acting, but I for one didn't notice any improvement in that department compared to any of the GTA games, nor does that factor into how I'd evaluate a video game.

GTA IV

i never got into San Andreas/Vice city, cant stand playing them with a mouse and keyboard, i will play them after GTA Iv but i will need to get a 360 remote receiver for my PC.

But i am loving everything about GTA4 so far, really addictive game.

In fav' order:-

GTA IV
GTA Vice City
GTA San Andreas
GTA III
Liberty City Stories
Vice City Stories
GTA
GTA II

Never played GTA London :(
Never played GTA Somalia - although seen photo's of the cover art so I know it exists :p

Same. Though I think London would be better.
We make the best gangland movies anyway, so it should be obvious.
If they're willing to do Liberty City twice, why not give something based on London another go, just make it British.

I have always thought it should British, ever since GTA Londong back in the day i loved that game.

Duckin and Diving, Wheelin 'n Dealing :D

Del Boy type characters, london Mafia.

I always thought a Russian version of the game would be good but since GTAIV is halfway their then its done it for me.

Worldwide version would be pretty hectic, instead of islands, travel to differant locations.

True, but, the scale of such a project... It'd take decades to complete! :P

If they did, they'd have to have a space mission easter egg type thing. 'Cause, I've always wondered what GTA would be like with outerspace style stuff.
