Your graphic card mistakes..

3DFX Voodoo 2

I built my first PC back in 1999. Prior to that I'd never used a pc before and didn't even know what the internet was. My only research option was magazines.

I didn't realise that the Voodoo 2 needed a separate 2D card so I had to go out and buy one. Somehow I managed to build it and install Windows 98 which was the first time I'd even used Windows.

Some games didn't have the option to select the Voodoo 2 so they used the 2D card instead.

If I'd known, I'd have bought the Voodoo Banshee instead which had 2D built in for much less money than two separate cards. I sold it after 4 months because I was so unhappy and bought an Nvidia Riva TNT 2 instead.

Sli gtx970s. Ocuk offered returns after the vram mess which i took them up on, i hung on with my old single gtx770 which was faulty and could only run at half clock speed, preordered an evga gtx1080 which i also regret because they were months late arriving so i jumped out of that queue and swapped to a gamerock 1080. More regret as its not a reference board and i can't fit a waterblock down the line! Fun times. At least the 1080 has been good value

GeForce 7900 GT. That was the loudest most annoying card I have ever had. The fan was small and it would spin up to crazy rpm’s.

Next one was a GeForce 440 MX. It turned out to be a lot worse than I was expecting at the time.

Any oh no moments, what have I done or bought?

Myself, many moons ago I owned 7800gtx .After a few down the pub on a Friday night I got home, went online and bought another one to run in sli. Definitely not a sober purchase..

the nividia 5900xt, that was actually my last nvidia card, other than that card nothing springs to mind except the onboard ati rage pro at the start of 1999 in my first ever comp, having to switch drivers depending on if i wanted to play toca 2 or apache v havok lol

actually replaced a knackered creative annilhator pro geforce 1 with a pny geforce 4 mx440 and it total destroyed it, it was akin to a geforce 2 ultra if i recall :)

I went for a ATI 9700 which I flashed to a pro. That smashed even the Ti4600 to bits. It is one of the best gpu upgrades I ever made. It run Half Life 2 like a dream :)

Matrox Mystique 220 instead of anything Voodoo.
Later on making the mistake of getting an AMD card instead of sticking with Nvidia. I had nothing but problems, moved to an 8800GT and have stuck with Nvidia since

2nd card was a Mistique. It was awful in games so had to get a voodoo to help it. The Matrox g400 was pretty good at the time, probably their last competitive gaming card.

Did anyone buy an original Ageia PhysX card? Never did, but very very nearly.

Had there been any games I played that supported it I would have purchased one, but there weren't so I didn't.

Anyway, my big mistake was scratching the back of a Radeon 9700 or 9800 over 15 years ago thereby ruining the card.

Not a bad GPU mistake

But I regret not buying my 2080ti far sooner then I did :(
(Seeing the Price vs fail rate of them kept putting me off) But am really pleased that I bought one now ;):) But that may change if it does fail :p

2x Asus Matrix 7970 in crossfire.

So many issues, so much heat.
