Your pet peeves in games.

QTE's especially ones that you can't fail, or when you do fail it just takes you straight back to the start to do it over and over again until you do it!!

Doesn't make any sense to me.

The bit where I have just got to in Deus EX HR where if you had [blank] replaced that a certain boss fight near the end is harder. Much harder.

Seriously wtf were they thinking. I am seriously %&~@ed off!

Completely disagree.
1. It is a major plot point
2. It is so blatantly signposted that it is a trap! (i did it anyway)
3. You don't have to do it. It is completely optional and just adds another aspect to the freedom in the game.

QUICK TIME EVENTS ARRRGGHGHGHGHGHH why? seriously, why? I bloody hate them.. And they seem to be in loads of games these days..

Also: unskippable dialogue/cut scenes, trial and error boss fights (the witcher 2, i'm looking at you!) turret sections in FPS games, quests involving running from a to b to c to speak to various people with no gameplay in between (the witcher 2 again!!)

Games that upon first launch default the resolution to 800x600 or something equally charming, and as a result have resized all of my other windows. Gives me mild rage :P

Dead Island was the voice overs, a constant "Mn, let's open this puppy up" did my head in.

Someone mentioned swimming above, but I think not swimming when there's a landscape involving water is incredibly annoying, especially if you fall in, and it's instant death.

Never any animals in games, just a minor visual irritation.

Lack of widescreen resolutions, not so bad these days.

Un-skippable intro movies.

Intro movies that are SO much louder than the rest of the game (I'm looking at you Dirt2).

Perks. ALL perks.

DLC. Especially DLC that they force you to download even if you haven't bought it (BC2 Vietnam).

DICE. They just don't seem to be able to make a good game (flame suit).

Constant internet connection required for SINGLE PLAYER games (again flame suit).

Mouse acceleration (positive or negative) or where it does ANYTHING to mess with the mouse settings (looking at you BC2, feels like my mouse-mat is covered in honey, and then the vehicles/turret negative acceleration ).

Console Ports!

GFWL, DRM and any online activation or online account to play an offline game. Very annoying indeed!

Steam, i'll let you off this one.

Actually the thing that probably annoys me the most is the level of multiplayer unlocking in some FPS games.

I hate it when you start playing a game after release and not only do you have to contend with players who are already more used to the game and maps than you, but also have unlocked more powerful weapons, special bullets that kill you in one shot and armour which makes it impossible to be killed.

I much prefer games where everything is availabe to everyone all of the time. Somebody starting BC2 today would find it terrible because everyone else is Superman compared to them!

Leveling enemies.
A rat shouldnt be 20 times tougher than when you start just because you are 20 times tougher.

Guns that take a million shots to kill someone where a knife will kill you instantly.
Thats not how it works, thats why we dont equip all our solidiers with knives instead of guns.

Not having a proper inventory.
Its a massive part of any game it featues in, so stop messing around telling me I can only carry 90 rounds and let ME decide how much ammo I want to carry.

Not being able to jump/crouch/go prone/lean round corners.
Lazy programming, sort it out.

Someone already said swimming. I totally agree, the prospect of any underwater bits puts me right off games.

The only game ever which was enjoyable underwater was Ecco the Dolphin on Megadrive which was awesome!

The other thing that grips my **** is games that don't work. I have a very standard rig but still have to mess about with every Bethesda game to make them use my processor properly and stop crashing.

- rubbish voice acting
- sub standard graphics
- loading bars which say they're at 100% when they take another 2 minutes to load
- unskippable cutscenes
- games which make you sign in to a network to play them (GFWL, PSN, etc). Fifa is one of the most annoying in this respect.
- games which takes features out in future versions for no coherent reasoning. eg. taking out text chat in Pro Evo and just leaving it with voice chat. Text chat was awesome.
- Grinding
- Games with way too much DLC its obvious they want your cash above actually making the game better
- invisible walls (especially the ones where you've tried a sneaky jump between ledges only to encounter it mid-jump so you inevitably die).

Release dates announced months or years before the game is completed and still has a large part of it's development to go.

It stifles creativity and produces titles that have clearly been rushed to be completed before an arbitrary point in time.

Thank god for devs like Valve, Blizzard and all of the Indie creators that follow the "when it's done" attitude.

Dumb A.I

Nothing makes me more annoyed than an enemy that keeps repeating the same failed strategy expecting a different result. For instance take supcom's default A.I - an absolute joke. then swap it with Sorian AI and suddenly you have a decent opponent that tries something different (flanking, ain drops, naval suppression, ect)

Difference is the default A.I was done in house and the Sorian one was done by a modder. :)

In-game cut scenes that you can't pause, instead you skip it and have to die to watch it again.
No Vsync option.
Games that have "Fullscreen" and "Windowed" but not "Fullscreen Windowed".
EULA/T&C's that make you scroll to the bottom before you can press "Next".
Dying on a boss fight and having to rewatch the cut scene before you can retry.
Escort missions.
Constantly repeated voice clips for doing something, like reloading.
