Your status?

I like it how it is. Fast, easy to read, no clutter, no adverts, minimal spambots, oh, and the easy theme!

And omg, when did I pass 10,000 posts?!?!?!

Yeah, a thank system would be Nepotism City. Anyway, isn't OP talking about the Man of Honour system, which is already implemented?

I think initially he was talking about a thanks/rep system although you're right the MoH is a fairly good way of recognising posters who've made a positive contribution to the forums. As far as I'm aware it will only ever be to a limited number every year though (<10) and some people who've made good contributions might be missed I suppose but it still seems to me a better idea than a thanks/rep system.

However it would be a shame if someone was only giving advice/help for the thanks they receive, just knowing that you've given good advice and helped out someone would hopefully be enough rather than needing formal recognition of this and even then it may or may not arrive under any given system depending on the capriciousness of those voting.

I could not agree more.

This is why OCUK is the only forum I use, although I dont post much I'm always on.

I dont know why people need to be thanked for helping, surley its just a nice thing to do!?

The whole Caporegime thing is wrong.... I mean you can't base these things on how many post's a person has or how long they have been a member. It should be about about how many problems you fix.

You would be right if it meant anything, but it doesn't. Does anyone even pay attention to them at all.

As others have said such a system is more than likely to be abused and be a popularity contest. Especially in GD.

What are you, some kind of wise guy??

ITT: We need hats, like TF:2, hats always > everything.

It shouldn't be about who is best at giving advise and helping people.

Its about the collective knowledge of us all, I will know stuff someone else wont and
someone else will know stuff I don't. Plus who really comes on the forum to have a status ?

My sig makes it clear what I can help with anyway.

What would this status idea bring to the table? The idea that if you ask a question, you pay more attention to the guy with a high status? But then how does any new guy get up to a higher status, if the existing guys just get the upvotes?

Saying thanks in a post is sufficient. It certainly is a nice for the recipient but no one else really cares. The current setup is uncluttered and works well as it is.

That's a valid point! I was just wishing to hear peoples thoughts on such a system which I've seen in use on other forums. Im not saying such a system would be good for the OcUK forums but just wanted to put the idea across.

A tin foil hat option would be really useful, when deployed It should protect you, the user with a shield that is impenetrable by gob *****
