Youtube's business model has always intrigued me. Even back in the old days when they started nailing their own youtubers and fannying out of paying they always struck me as a company who's got their priorities the wrong way around. Then the ads started getting ridiculous and everyone started blocking them - Youtube's solution? Shove more ads down the throats of those not yet blocking, pushing them towards blocking too.
We're seeing it all over again now, they're obviously well aware of all the VPN shenanigans so rather than reduce the price of subscriptions in the western world, they're screwing over the countries that are used for the loopholes.
Business is quite simple really - provide a service, price it well, and people will come. Not Youtube, make it more expensive, drive their customers to loopholes, and then punish those loopholes with entire nations being taken as collateral damage.
Quite a stupid idea to me, but then I don't run a multi-billion dollar company so what do I know.
