YouTube Premium

Youtube's business model has always intrigued me. Even back in the old days when they started nailing their own youtubers and fannying out of paying they always struck me as a company who's got their priorities the wrong way around. Then the ads started getting ridiculous and everyone started blocking them - Youtube's solution? Shove more ads down the throats of those not yet blocking, pushing them towards blocking too.

We're seeing it all over again now, they're obviously well aware of all the VPN shenanigans so rather than reduce the price of subscriptions in the western world, they're screwing over the countries that are used for the loopholes.

Business is quite simple really - provide a service, price it well, and people will come. Not Youtube, make it more expensive, drive their customers to loopholes, and then punish those loopholes with entire nations being taken as collateral damage.

Quite a stupid idea to me, but then I don't run a multi-billion dollar company so what do I know.

I noticed while looking around earlier that Premium seems to be increasing prices. I've seen Canadian and US versions going up. I wonder if the UK will be next. I don't follow these things.

Maybe its because I'm an older gamer, but high resolutions while watching programmes don't interest me. I can happily watch a programme at 480. I noticed on my TV SD is being shown at 576. HD is at 1080.

An increase for me from approx £1.05 to approx £4.10 is enough for me to consider switching to a cheaper country such as India.
Really?

I've got a family sub via India and even if it did go up to say £4 a month, for the amount of YouTube I watch in a week it's still insane value.

From what I've seen, people have cancelled and then have struggled to get a sub going from another country so if you're dead set on finding somewhere else then give it a whirl but I'd hold fast imo.

How are you chaps purchasing YT from India etc. I VPN'd myself over there etc. but as soon as I put any of my cards in it automatically stopped me. I rang up the bank and told them I was in "India" and they unblocked the card, tried again still failed. Its a shame you cant pay via PayPal etc.

I took a VPN flight to India and registered to pay with my Monzo card. Been working fine for the last 2 or so years. I can't go back to youtube with ads as I consume a lot of content on YouTube daily.

My friend has done the India trick via VPN where he pays something like £1.50/month, then he linked his YT account with my account and with one other friend so we all pay 50p/month. He's done the same with Spotify where he's set up a friends and family account for £16/month then myself and the other friend put in £5.50. So for YT + Spotify, I set up a standing order of £6 to pay my bit towards the subs.

oh you bloody devil you. :D

Does anyone know if it's possible to switch from an existing Argentinian package to an Indian one, as i'm thinking of emigrating :D

Edit: My email states my price is going from ARS 179.00/month to ARS 699.00/month. I'm not sure why mine has gone up to a different price to others?
Mines the same - this is for the family, maybe others are paying for one user.

That won't work much longer for anyone using a chromium based browser. I wonder if this will see the resurgence of firefox.
Depends. Firefox will also be adopting MV3 but their adoption will have some changes from Chromium's. That may or may not allow adblockers to remain working functionally the same as they are now. I'm hoping Microsoft see the light and make the same changes as they seem to value privacy more than google.

Does anyone know what the percentage split is between YouTube and the Creators when you sign up for £11.99 a month? I think I'd be more inclined to sign up if it was £7.99, but £11.99 is too much IMO. Especially as I don't give a crap about YouTube Music.

I don't think it works like that. All I know is that the rates from premium users are higher than ad watching, per video.
