Z68 Extreme4 Gen3

so if i order today when will it arrive NathWraith

Monday, unless you specify Saturday delivery. Stock levels are showing 10+

Thinking of ordering one of these boards myself with the 2500k, reaching 4.4Ghz seems pretty damn easy, I was just wondering for those that have reached this, what RAM have you got? Ideally i'd like to jump from 4GB to 8GB but wondering if I wouldnt be able to achieve this with certain RAM?

I ordered mine a few hours ago and i use this memory Corsair XMS3 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CMX8GX3M2A1600C9)

With this memory my 2600k and my old Asrock board i got 4.8 easy.

same here running 4.6ghz just on turbo havent bothered proper overclocking yet.

using the corsair 2x4gb sticks of 1600 @ 1.35v white limited edition.

Might seem a silly question. But is there any need to buy a Gen3 mobo yet ? I mean there is no gfx out yet that can use PCI 3.0 yet and god knows how long it will be till we see them.

So is there anything really that different between this ver (gen3) and the non gen3 ver apart from maybe future proof. Even then what if the next range of cpu are a different socket size ?

As far as i understand these boards should take ivy bridge also i wont be using a discrete video card just the igpu. I suppose if you wait you can get this board a bit cheaper.

I cant find a better motherboard based on Z68 chipset that costs under £200 guys would you agree? I was looking at the MSI GD80 but its like £199 and has a crap buggy bios.

Apart from the Extreme 7 board this is the one i have been waiting for right? Requirements are PCIE 3.0 and Ivy bridge support.

Yup, ordered mine at dinner time, hopefully it will arrive Tuesday AM, decided to pay for DPD instead of using that pathetic excuse of a company DX Secure

Rest of my rig is arriving tmrw from a diff retailer, build should be epic

Planning on ordering mine tomorrow with a 2600K and 8GB of RAM. have a few questions though.

Those coolers on the MOSFETS seem rather large and abit close to the CPU for my chosen CPU cooler, the Thermaltake Frio to fit. Anyone with this set up can confirm it can/cannot fit?

I've also lined up Corsair Vengeance Blue RAM but I'm unsure of the Frio will be too big to allow the RAM (with the taller and pointy heatsink) to fit into the slots marked for dual channel.

Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks in Advance :)

the ram wouldn't fit in slot 1 with the cooler not sure about slot 2, but for dual channel you need 1 and 3 or 2 and 4. you will be wanting low profile ram9i.e. without fins etc).
can answer the question about the mosfets.

Corsair XMS3 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit
or Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit
either of these should fit with that cooler.

Why not try the newer Vengeance kit, they're a lot smaller and don't have the tall spikes on.

Thanks for the help with the RAM guys. Ak!ta that Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 8GB seems very well priced, and it matches the colours of my PC a little bit better as well. So thanks for recommending that.

Can anyone see the huge coolers on the MOSFETS surrounding the CPU socket getting in the way with such a big cooler? I'm planning on buying the Corsair Obsidian 650D, so i could orientate the fan either horizontally (exhausting out the rear) or vertically (exhausting to the top). Hopefully the case can fit the cooler in :D

You should be fine with that ram. I am using a Titan Fenrir Evo, which is probably as big and i had no problems. Also your case is 229mm wide so there should not be any problems there either, as the cooler is approx 166mm in height...

Mine arrived today with some other goodies. Just finished building it and re-installing everything. Tested the ram and have ran a few temp tests at stock ... Will crack on with getting to 4.8 tomorrow
