Z68 Extreme4 Gen3

Hi Chaps,

Any BIOS updates out yet? I have checked the site but can't see anything.

Edit...just seen the posts above. Looks like I am some booting issues then. Very slow getting through splash screen, no errors just going through the codes very slow and then boots as normal. Anyone had anything similar?
 
Just an update, I have eliminated the following:

- Unplugged SSD, still hangs
- Unplugged storage F4 - Hangs
- Ram sticks, 1 at a time...hangs
- X-Fi Sound Card...hangs

Yet to try:

- Graphics Card
- CPU?

Any help appreciated before I make a new thread to highlight some issues
 
Right another update, I have found the issue! :)

It's my bloody Steelseries Xai...when the motherboard boots check I/O Ports and USB it hangs with codes 98 and B4. After unplugging the mouse it flys into windows, typical.

One to remember for anyone else ^
 
I'm wanting to add a Xonar Essence STX into the PCI-E slot above my GTX 580 and was just wondering if it would fit ok and if anyone else has a soundcard in that slot?

I had my Terratec 2400 DVB-T card in there at first, it was a bit of a squezz. So I moved it to the bottom Pci-e 2.0 x 16 slot (which runs at x4) and it works fine :D
 
follow up:

After ordering the ASRock Z68 Extreme4 Gen 3 and some Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 8GB and the frankly huge Thermaltake Frio cooler it all arrived yesterday and is sitting on my desk currently.

The Frio does fit on the board, and RAM slots 1, 2 3 & 4 are all accessible. However i'd expect that RAM with tall heatsinks will not fit in slot 1 with the Frio.

Also it would be best to install the RAM in slot 1 then install the Frio, as it can be a bit of a pain to do in reverse. Just a heads up to anyone planning on this combo of components.

How would this board preform with the ram I am using now, just picked up a i7 2600k ..so now hunting a motherboard. (ram in sig)

Edit: I would just use 3x2GB sticks (will buy new ram at a later date - once I have flogged the other 6gb)

Miss read sorry. The board would run fine using 2x2gb sticks, are you looking at overclocking ?

I am at 4.6 at the moment at 3.25v...using akasa venon nano it idles at 28 to 31 and after 2 hrs of non stop gaming temps reach 50 degrees.

only problem I have at the moment is that my Revo drive write speed has dropped to 320 from 470/490 in atto. That was on my X58-UD7.....anyone know what could cause the loss in write speed?....the read speeds are still good at 530/540 in atto

Yeah I would be, would it not be better to use the 3 sticks, so will have dual + one more stick, or could go 4x2 sticks for total of 8GB.

I could just go out and buy a new set of ram but would rather sell what I have first, as I would prefer to then buy 4x4GB sticks.

Added: is it just me or is everyone in this thread using the i5 opposed to the i7 2600k which is what I have gotten

The i5 is what people use for gaming. The i7 is better for multi-threading, but you don't need the i7 for gaming.
As for the ram, you might be better to sell it as a job lot.
What are you using your pc for?

Gaming mostly and a bit of video work, loads of photo-shop stuff, was gonna go i5 but then got this i7 2600k at a good price on the MM.

Yeah you may be right about the ram, just means a bigger outlay now :p

which ram would you guys recommend?
