Z68 Extreme4 Gen3

That's my point. I repeat are you Guys having any driver issues?

It 'works' out of the box, but Windows 8 has other new features which need specific driver support i.e. Fast Boot. You'll also note most of the Windows 7 drivers are VERY old, a refresh with optimizations for Windows 8 is well overdue.

Since the Z77 boards have been launched we have had 0 driver updates. Still problems using USB3 also (as has been since launch of these - their USB3 drivers are all still in BETA lol!) despite Windows 8's native support for USB3.

Personally this will be the first and last Asrock mainboard I buy, look at how many BIOS updates we've had compared to the likes of the P67 users, its like Asrock just don't give a pants. (I'm not going to mention the last time the Intel OROM was upgraded in the bios either - oops too late!)

With start8 installed it was almost useable. But I still uninstalled it from my laptop.

I don't understand how you found it not usable? Windows 8 menu is just a glorified Win7 start. Windows 8 is faster, my gaming performance has increased a touch.

About the asrock drivers. I had bsod after I installed the Intel rapid storage driver on windows 8. Now you might think that's my own fault for installing a Windows 7 driver but if you look at bios 2.20 you will see changes for windows 8 so I thought ok them drivers have been tested on windows 8, I was wrong audio issues, bsod.
I had to look elsewhere for the drivers and them lazy sods cant even update the list from Windows 7 out dated drivers to new windows 8 drivers.

I take on board your comments about on-board sound, which I have never used. My aged but wonderful Asus Xonar Essence STX has had a kick ass driver upgrade.

each to their own, but i paid for windows8 and was and remain disappointed. when some more 3rd party apps come out that strip the bs i will have another pop.

i hear what you say, and i noticed a speed bump, but it was not worth the pain and ordeal over the other stuff,

To move with the times dude :p

Whether you or I like it or not windows 8 is Microsoft's next operating system and they ain't gonna dump it just because a couple of people don't like it. It's about convergence of technologies so I can understand their move (can't say I love it either but it's workable with a few tweaks when you know what your doing)

Lol .... I know how to move with the times, but have also learnt not to accept and eat **** every time someone forces it down your throat. I have more Microsoft qualifications than I can shake a stick at. Metro is not bad on tablet. But bit fail on PC. Saying that I do admit it has some nice speed improvements

Why did you uninstall windows 8 Jim?

It feels identical to windows 7 to me, just faster and a few extra fps for gaming.

could not get on with it mate, i watch a lot of flims on my laptop, and like to flip in and out and do other bits, could not get win8 working right with it, pausing for me when i only wanted minimized, also the taskbar not working correctly when using multiple programs,

i will wait for better 3rd party apps to give me what i want

You are right. Microsoft became the dominant force by being all things to all men. It borrowed the task bar from Lotus, the x and box in the right corner from apple, used the F keys, also alt, control, and so on... I remember in the Windows 95 days having many arguments with several people on how to do things in Windows only to find we were all right. But with 8 it just wants you to do things one way, the 8 way, Microsoft are you listening?

the bios works fine.

but now I need a uefi gop bios for my 6990. so ultra fast boot will work. anyone know if theres one out yet?

No ultra-fast setting for me too, due to the age of my graphics cards. Still on the Fast setting, it's increased my boot up speed from 53 to 43 seconds, not bad.
