Z68 Extreme4 Gen3

This sounds like a silly question before I even type it...

...but is there any way to disable an entire memory channel on these boards? I only ask in the vain hope that there is as my B1 and B2 slots seem to be not working, as every time I try to boot with a DIMM in either my board goes straight to a code 55 error and boot loops. Both DIMMs work fine in A1 and A2.

I think it's RMA time :(

I think my Extreme 4 motherboard might have a fault :(

My GPU makes that noise under load, I have tried a different PSU and Two/Three Different GPUs (All ATi cards)

I'm sorely tempted to swap the board out and see if it makes any difference.

Ideas guys? :(

one thing i have learnt over the years with pc's is its very hard to pinpoint sounds!

you need to remove all you can, graphics cards, and unplug all the fans, i had this once and turned out to be the fan on my cpu liquid cooler.

when the pc is booted unplug the any cpu fans for a split second and replug them before the fire,

It only makes that noise when I fire up a game though Jimlad, it's based on load.

It definately isn't the case fans, and the water cooling unit I removed and replaced with the stock cooler. The sound remains!

It's doing my head in! I've tried another PSU, No change. Different CPU cooler, No Change.

Short Version.

VTX 3D 7970 made the same Noise
MSi 6950 made a quieter Noise.
MSi 7970 made the same Noise, card had faulty memory and was returned.
Replacement MSi 7970 made the same Noise.

Replaced PSU with a Seasonic Unit, brand new. Noise still remained so I DSRd the unit back to the retailer.

With your ear inside the case, the noise is coming from the GPU. However.. with BOTH PSUs I tested, you could also hear the noise from the GPU! but it also came from the PSU when you had your ear against it (outside of the case)

I hope all that makes sense. I don't really know what to do :o

him strange one, i cant see how it can be the mobo, but maybe something shorting or broken circuit. but i would say PSU or Gcard. you need to test the psu and gcard on another pc. be a pain in the arse to pull the mobo out

Hmm. I have my old Q6600, board and ram sat here behind me.

I think I'll rig that up with the graphics card to see if it makes the same noise. That should rule the mobo out?

Do you think I'll get away with trying to boot from my Current Windows 7 version? It has all my current chipset drivers for the Z68 motherboard. The Q6600 motherboard is an x38 IIRc

him if you do it may install unwanted drivers onto that hard drive. it should boot ok, but will add carp to the drive.

Such is life! Never mind :)

Can someone with this board please do me a favour? Fire up Hwinfo64 (Sensors Only) and tell me their readings on the Sensors shown below. One seems a little hot to me?
