*** Zelda: Breath of the Wild ***

Well there's 4 Fairy Godess things, so....

I know there is one by Kirkkorko village, she upgraded some of my armour twice, found another one looks just like her but black and a horse on....which can bring back dead horses.

There are 2 other ones? What are the differences?

Yeah, sorry.

I meant the first time i did a major combat trial I ended up running away.

I'm sure there's a few. I've done about 5x minor ones.

I couldn't even beat a minor test of strength when I last tried it, I had 4 hearts and ran out of weapons so in part I used tree branches....I was SO close at one try. Now I don't fear them anymore.

Just done my first Major Test of Strength !

Hard? Not that hard now I have semi decent weapons, but you do need a lot of weapons, keep breaking them!!! and at the end I had to use bomb arrows, had no time to get close to finish him off. Good thing I was rewarded with 3 guardian weapons.
I have killed at least 4 now, some harder than others. I can kill them with just one shield and one guardian weapon and a few arrows at this point. Now that I just got the guardian armour, when I find the next major test of strength it will probably be very easy.

Well there's 4 Fairy Godess things, so....

Only found one so far. I am trying my best not to google things much and discover on my own at this point as it is more satisfying when I find it on my own. Like when I found my fairy I was like what is this interesting looking structure then from far away when observing. Had to go investigate and was pleasantly surprised :)

The one I found was in a flower :)

Easy to get to, just jump from a tower and glide. I saw it when looking around on a tower.

The first time I tried the major test I was hopelessly mismatched. No chance with crappy weapons. Plus it takes a while to get used to its attack patterns and how to defend against it. However every non major test of strength I managed to kill when I found them. I usually die a few times until I form a strategy however :p

Walking around in this game I am constantly in awe, it feels like someone literally maticously combed every inch of grass in this vast vast world.

Because you can climb everywhere, they have to designed so that you can reach certain places with just 1 stamina circle, some needs more. The way they design the distances between places feels so right, the wilderness seems empty but full of life, you see the odd travellers too and odd enemy. You feel alone but not at the same time, you know there could be a secret on every corner, need to pay attention to every crack, every odd placed rock, every lone tree or ruins. It all can be a puzzle. That's the thing, the entire map feels like a massive puzzle. In other sandbox game you walk around and the only thing you can interact with are other objects that moves, you see a building and the only thing you concern about in games like Farcry is who is inside but that buildnig isn't a puzzle. In this, even an innocent looking stump of a tree can be the beginning of a little puzzle.

Then there are things like those little guy hiding under rocks that give you seeds, they are literally everywhere and I don't think you can find them all and i am not sure I can remember whether i have collected them or not even if someone release a list of it all. Everything is varied, nothing is in order so if you missed it, you know you can come back. The game constantly give you varied and new things and it's 1 more shine, 1 more heart, 1 more tower, 1 more rupee.

No wonder this has taken so long to make.

+1

And this is why as someone who is primarily a PC gamer (my favourite platform) I think it is a better game than anything I have played on pc in a long time. The likes of W3 and Far Cry are dull in comparison imo. Look at how nice the graphics are on something like the latest Far Cry, yet even as someone who really loves graphics I would take Zelda over it every time.

I am unsure now whether to get Horizon Zero Dawn...because apart from walking around being in awe of the nice scenary, which no doubt I will be amazed and singing its praises for the first few days, after that, I know those trees aren't going to be chopped down, I can't use it as resources, I know that puddle of water isn't a puzzle and scenary are just that, scenary.

In Zelda, i am surrounded by puzzles. I mean I saw 2 rock circles on top of a hill on the south easy corner of the map last night, one has a rock in the middle of it, one do not.....that has to be a puzzle but what??? Later on I go into this fishing village and sees new animals I have not encountered and want to catch them all for food and elixirs and proceed to find a cooking pot.

Right now though, I am trying to get as many Shrines around the map, not only for orbs/hearts but also as travel points. Because I realised now some of the areas I have not explored much at all and if I were to go back, it's at least half hour of walking/climbing to get around.

p.s. that Half man half Horse dude....I think you either need a Rubber armour or Ancient Armour against him as he shoots lighting arrows which is deadly. Fire and Ice Arrow does nothing to him at all. In fact, out in the open world I have avoided all mini bosses, from the Rock dudes to the giant Goblins.

2 DB down now, and the game just gets better. I found a couple of really good "shrine quests" and was stuck in a maze for a couple of hours last night.... got some really nice loot out of it though :D.

It makes me wonder where Zelda can go from here... I mean, how can the next game out-do the world they've created? They could have a new storyline, but from a functional POV, I can't see how things can be improved.

Well this took 4 years to make, so we won't see another for a while.

The game is basically a mashup of all the best games from the last 20 years going back to Ocarina of time. The shrines feel Portal-esque, the open world is one of the best (if not THE best) world ever created.

Here's an example of two completely random things I came cross yesterday

1) You can surf down mountains on a shield!
2) I was paragliding and accidentally landed on a deer, and it gave me the same prompts you get when you capture a horse to soothe it! It got away, i'm not sure you can capture them or not but how cool is that? I could potentially have a deer to ride around on. Something I never would have even thought possible.

I can't see how it's physically possible to find the rumoured 900 Koroks, but knowing the internet it's already been done. You don't need to, there's no 'Trophy/achievement' unlocked for it like you would get on PS4/Xbox/Steam - but I'd be intrigued if there was a reward of some sort.

Stumbling across an Island on a raft which then unlocked a whole quest
Which takes all your gear/clothing away and you have to get 3 spheres in place, one of which is on a Hinox giant thing! Then when you complete it you find a bird creature outside the shrine and there's a paragliding course from the top of the mountain

I was up til gone 4:00 a.m on Saturday in to Sunday, not done that with a game for what seems like years.

Other things which just show off the depth, such as wearing a fire sword on your back raises your temperature, or using an ice weapon in the desert helps cool you. Even things like standing in shadows actively reducing temperatures. This doesn't sound like much, but shows the detail the physics engine which runs the world is capable of.

I did that quest a few nights ago :D. I flew to it though from the huge headland.

I tried fighting the Hinox at first, but he was too tough. SO I ended up paragliding onto his chest as he slept, and grabbed the item and ran for it :D.

I actually killed him using upgraded bombs (which took a long time!) I kept doing a loop up the nearby path then jumped off the hill when he finally got to the top and then started over again

Ganon done.

Gameplay: 8/10 loads of lovely little touches but nothing of note or new that stands out
Controls: 7/10 targeting system and hit distances let this down. targeting has been much better in every iteration from oot to skyward
Performance: 4/10 absolute dog on wii u
Graphics: 9/10 one of the prettiest ever seen, really thought I was playing a live anime at points
Story: 4/10 very little originality for a zelda series, expected more twists to evolve gameplay

Overall 7/10 very far from the best game ever made imo but a decent romp.

I had hoped that the 4 beasts were just the pre-cursor to a massive world that branched out. Like OoT where you get the triforce first then the game opens up to a world of dungeons. So much wasted space. I haven't even been to 3 of the zones.

I found Zelda's white horse but did not have enough stamina to sooth her!

The Dear thing is cool, I wonder if I could ride a bull lol

How do you surf on the shield ?

I spent a long time on the island and cleared everything and cooked everything and collected everything before taking on the Hinox. He killed me. Did it all again and he killed me again. I will have him though! Amazing little part of the game I probably messed around on that island for maybe 4 hours straight before I decided to give up and do another beast. Game keeps on giving.

Hinox's I find are easy to kill. Just pop them in the eye and slash away. They chase me around for ages never catching me :p

They have sat on me a few times killing me though. Lol.

Be amazing to get one where you can soar on thermals and just potter round the map seeing the sights.

Yeah, would be cool :D

Get the hardest hitting two hander you're carrying and wail on them with a charged spin attack. You can normally take 50-60% of their health off before they even stand up ;)
