*** Zelda: Breath of the Wild ***

38 hours in and not done any main quests other than the starting tutorial ones. Shrine hunting still. Best money ive spent in a very long time

What's the best way of tackling the modest test of strength shrine ? Only got 4 hearts so basically died anytime I got near the spider thing :(

Is that the one in the room with the columns that get blown up when it fires at you?

I just ran toward it while it was charging up its big laser and wacked it one and then ran away again - having an elixir or meal that speeds you up helps?

Once you watch their moves, there is little reason you should be getting hit other than being careless or bad time management I found. When far away always have shield up in case he does those quick burst's of fire. Other than that you can out run beams, just stay far away. Then use arrows to finish off. But only use arrows when at the end where all they do is the long laser beam.

If they pause to charge and rush with the spinning attack, sit behind the columns and it'll stun them for some free hits.

Yeah.

I mean after like 4-5 deaths you see every attack pattern they have so you know exactly what to expect. The only reason not to be able to kill is having super weak weapons that keep braking before decent amount of damage is dealt. In wish case it means just come back later.

When they do the 360 degree laser beam you will get an up-drought that you can glide on. You can then fly in and do a downward smash with your weapon for a lot of damage. If you are patient even then the major tests are quite easy if you have reasonable weapons.

I left all the major ones also when I found them. All my weapons would break before I could kill, so was impossible. Lol.
Haha I have some ok weapons like 24 dmg ? And a guardian sword ? I think I'm pretty bad at the combat though but I will go back to them

The combat shrines are fairly easy when you know the pattern;

- At the start of the fight they'll often use their burst laser attack. Just hold up your shield and you should be good.
- Their standard attacks can easily be strafed left or right. Just strafe and get a few hits in from behind.
- When they swing their arms out and jump back to do their spin attack simply run behind and pillar, wait for it to crash into it and get a few free hits in.
- When it gets between roughly 50% and 25% HP it'll jump back and do it's spinning laser attack. Run out of range and either wait for it to end or snipe with an ice or shock arrow and get a few hits in.
- It's final attack is the charge laser. It takes forever to charge so get a few hits in while it charges and the run parallel to it at a decent distance and the lasers should miss.

Only real issue is weapon durability so make sure to stock up on decent weapons first.

Due to my illness only really played on my switch properly tonight
A quick go on zelda turned into a 3hr go :p
Not sure what im doing, never really played a zelda game before
Done a couple of shrines but others seem like miles away
Keep getting killed by a blue bokoblin lol
So im just wondering around collecting stuff

First off, keep any Guardian weapons you get for these fights, the Guardian weapons do extra damage to them. Also try and keep some fairys in your inventory, if you die they instantly revive you with 5 hearts (get some near the Fairy fountain near the Kakariko village shrine).
As mentioned by Moothead 2 my tactics are mostly the same. The difference between each level of combat trial is the health of the guardian and the tier of weapons they use. I.e. the best weapons and longest fights are the major tests of strength.

Stage 1: Spinning attack
Stage 2: Tornado Laser
Stage 3: Charge laser

- In stage 1, when they shoot lasers run around and hide behind the pillars
- Keep you distance for the rest of stage 1 and try to keep a pillar in between you and the Guardian. They will often jump back and do the spinning attack. If they rush and hit a pillar, they will be stunned. This is your opportunity to get in some hits
- At about half health, they will be at stage 2. They stop doing the spinning attack
- During this stage they will bunker down and create a whirlwind with their laser. This creates an upward air current that lets you glide
- This makes this stage easy, all you have to do is use your glider to glide over to the Guardian and do an attack from the air to stun them. Get in a few hits before retreating. Rinse and repeat
- Stage 3 is the hardest part. Speed-boost elixirs would be handy here. While they charge their laser, get in and beat the crap out of them. As they are about to fire, run in circles around them to try and avoid the laser. You might end up having to use a few fairys, but rinse and repeat.
- Once you've killed the guy, pick up his weapons. They are great for killing guardians and the shield can deflect the laser, but breaks quick

I just did another difficult trial yesterday. There were conveyor belts and lasers. I finally learnt that you can jump farther with a run up, but the lasers still kept on knocking me off. Also if you have a horse you don't want... ride it along the valley path that goes west from just north of the Great Plateau. I've no idea if it's repeatable, but it's definitely doable for at least 1 horse. Killing them isn't such a great idea.

Finally completed yesterday. Having done everything I wanted, getting the best gear and fully upgrading it etc I decided go explore the castle and kill Ganon.

I finished the game with 72 shrines, 20 hearts and all memories.

The only thing that I think I did not do (apart from remaining shrines obviously) was:
kill those flying dragons. But I only ever saw them twice and they disappeared before I got to them :(

According to the game clock, it says it took me 75 or more hours. What a great game! Had so much fun. Was planning on doing more shines before going to Ganon, but in it just ended up feeling right at that point for me once all memories were done and I had the fully upgraded guardian outfit together with the Hyrule Shield and Master Sword. I lost my motivation for more hearts after 20 so decided to go for Ganon.

Will give the game a 9.5/10. Would score it higher as gameplay was great, but I felt the story and the way the main quests were done could have been a little better. Maybe some more dungeons in addition to the Divine Beasts.

Don't think you can do the spoiler, you just chip bits off them. I hit one with an arrow and bits whizzed off it.

As for shield, you mean hylian shield? Iirc that's the only chest in the game that gives the epic opening tune! Only found it last night

Yeah, I meant Hylian Shield :p

Such a great shield. Never seems to break. I used it to one shot deflect the laser from stationary guardians and kill. The mobile ones take 3 deflections I think, easier and quicker to pop a normal arrow in their eye and have at them with the master sword. Towards the end I only used ancient arrows on the flying guardians for one shot kills :)

You need 2 piece of it's horn to upgrade the Hylian Tunic to level 2 (14) defence.

I shot it but only got scales and not shards, you need the shards. I don't think you can kill him and he certainly don't attack you. They normally come out in a set time, either just after midnight or just after sun rise.

Ah, so that is what that is. Every time I went to upgrade I never seem to have it. And was like I have killed everything. What is this thing.. Did not google, so was left wondering. At times I even forgot about the dragons as during the whole game I only saw them twice and they were far away and disappeared quickly :(

I had a look at types of enemies and it seems I killed all the Lynal's except the strongest one. Going to take him out later on for the fun of it now that I know his location. Also never came across Molduga's in the desert, will go kill one of those too :D
