Clocking Advice/Tips Needed

Ok, will try that tomorrow M8, bit late now but I thank you for all you valued help.

I think the biggest problem I have is heat and Im tempted to re-lap the CPU and cooler but I dont know if that will help.

But will post back tomorrow with the stress tests at 7x.

In at 7x now and running plain old Vista ok.

Just tried a short test of prime and temps at 80.

Ummm anyone with a house size cooler.

Np Realist, I would not relapp the processor nor the cooler. The problem is related to the cooler imo, it cannot dissipate the heat fast enough It may be worth considering a TT120? Failing that the case fans~air flow may be?

Interesting thread, certainly a lot of support given - I have to agree with CyZ, the Artic cooler is excellent for the price, but you're asking a lot of it at these settings.
Time to bump to a better cooler I think. Since you're no stranger to lapping, the TT120 is the best choice I think. Best of luck mate, ;).
 
I have 2 Freezers here one lapped, one standard and I've used the both and none effect the temps so in my mind lapping the cooler just does not work.

I will scroll through my threads and see what is the lowest I have had my temps at idle just as an idea and try and find out if these low temls was before I lapped or after, if its before Im thinking I didn't do a good job at lapping cos it was not like a mirror finish but dull.

Will if needs be get hold of a TT120 but that will be when I get some cash together and when the new tube of silver comes.

Scrolled through this thread and my first post regarding temps was here: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=10605356&postcount=20 and they are low at idle.

Something is wrong cos running back then at 3200 and the temps at load was 50ish and now my temps are 50ish plus idle.

Will check seating of the cooler, redo the tim with what I have and see if that helps.

SO my p5KC should be able to do 450fsb, yeahy. Only problem is that I seem to need more V than you!. Clearly you dont find your board has massive V droop, i wonder why mine does
 
Out of interest I reset the mobo back to default and booted into Vista to check the temps, in my opinion they are still high for whats running.

From these pics I assume that he cooler base or the cpu base is not flat or the cooler is not being pulled down enough to make a secure fit.

I re-lapped the CPU and cooler and now the temps are:

33 31 27 27 Idle at default settings

Before they was 38 35 32 32

So i've reduced the temps by 5 degs if Im right.

Now I'll use the overclocked settings and see what the temps are like.
 
Because I've done the pencil mod and it works great.

Hi realist the temp are still high under load. The photos you have posted showing the bad contact between the IHS and cooler. Out of interest are you lapping using a circular or up, down motion.

Edit: As a suggestion realist relapp the IHS to ensure flatness. Use a stanley blade to check for flatness against the light

Up and down and then turning the cooler/cpu 45 deg and redoing the lapping 10 times each way.

This as I assume give a better lap all over the surface.

I re-applied the tim using Arctic Silvers instructions (line) but Im tempted to remove the 4 clips from the freezer and use 4 nut and bolts and insulated washers.

I'll remove the cooler and cpu again and check for flatness using a stanley blade and post back.
