You must have a dodgy component somewhere. There are a few people over at XS that have problems with our ram with the 502 and 601 bios. Personally i have'nt had any problems due to the ram/bios. Nothing's getting too hot is it?
what ya reccommend i do next?Ok I'm making progress, up a whole 15fsb so far compared to before
(3311mhz).
. I got up to 3447mhz then Orthos crashed after a couple of minutes (didn't fail, just stopped responding) both times I tried it. So I went back down 5fsb and it Orthos failed even though it was 30mins stable before, the same thing happened again after I went back another 5fsb
. Anyone have any ideas, the config was like this:I spoke too soon. I got up to 3447mhz then Orthos crashed after a couple of minutes (didn't fail, just stopped responding) both times I tried it. . Anyone have any ideas, the config was like this:
CPU: 383 x 9 = 3447 @ 1.225v
Mem: 4-5-5-15 2t @ 2.1v
Edit: Crap it just failed at stock... slightly worried!
ws alrihgt at stock, did a bit of oc, was alright or a bit, then crashed, back down to stock and its still failing
something is definitly up, but i think one of my ram sticks is duff as ive just rum mem test again on one stick and it failed and the other is now almomst 40% through the test and hasnt failed... so gunna try again with this stick, and the other stick on mem test to make sure, then just use the one good stick and see if tht was causing the great instability cos just after my last post and all i was doing was forum browsing and i god BSOD
nope not that i can tell, had the case open everynow and then and been touching the NB and HSF base and barely even warm...... hummmwhat ya reccommend i do next?

The cuppa helps when feeling frustrated.![]()
or coffee... pah redbull will do
mybe with vodka
u got msn?Hi Midget, what is your memory? Make, model and rated speed? Come to that, what is the rest of your rig? Sorry if i have missed it.
!!! Hah
so calling up ocuk now to tell them... just letting the other stick go through the test again to make sure then ill try stocks again
heres hoping thats all the prob was
Are you too lazy to look for it yourself, damn these people who try to help but won't make the effort to find everything out themselves!!! Hah
Only joking ofcourse, my rig is:
Asus P5K
OCZ Platinum 2gb DDR2 6400 rev 2
E8400 - stock HSF
Right now I upped the CPU voltage to 2.5v, seems to be running stable with Orthos just now, but it's still to early to tell if it's going to fail on me.
CPU: 383 x 9 (3447mhz) @ 2.5v (in bios, CPU-Z reports 1.176v though). SpeedStep is on, not sure if I should disable it or not?
Memory: 383mhz 4-5-5-13 2t @ 2.1v
Anything else you need to know?
If cpu-z reports 1.176 that's a hell of a vdroop. Do you have loadline calibration enabled?
I hope you mean 1.5v and not 2.5v.If cpu-z reports 1.176 that's a hell of a vdroop. Do you have loadline calibration enabled?
The P5K is a fine board and i have seen some go to 540 fsb!! I always turn off speedstep when clocking. Should be able to tighten up your ram to 4-4-4-maybe 12 but i would leave it at 15 until you find a stable clock.
Mine has just fallen over again after 3.5 hours at 4.2ghz. Just raised the vcore a notch and trying again. This is the hardest overclock i have ever had.
Sasso. don't use msn, nor any other instant messager come to that. Have you tried moving the ram to the other slots?
. It's just ran for half an hour with Orthos so I will probably try pushing it a little bit more soon. My temps seem pretty high though: Coretemp reads 68-70c for the cores, and SpeedFan reads 60c for the CPU under load, is this too high?
set my settings like you have done pastymuncher but i havent upped the cpu yet just did the first bit with setting the timings DRAM volts and bios order... left everything else alone and just using the one good stick of ram (everything is a bit slower
) but atleast now im running the blend test and its been going for 10 mins now where as before it was failing in a matter of seconds.... so take that ram!!! bah!!!!
im happier now
but now i have to RMA the other stick
hope its a fast turn over
Hah, I only actually meant 1.25v. It's just ran for half an hour with Orthos so I will probably try pushing it a little bit more soon. My temps seem pretty high though: Coretemp reads 68-70c for the cores, and SpeedFan reads 60c for the CPU under load, is this too high?
What does it usually mean when Orthos crashes rather than fails? Or is there really a difference, both just tell you it's unstable?

Sasso
Bet your glad you didn't RMA the wrong part.
Did your memory come as a kit ?
Sometimes you have to send both sticks back even if only one is faulty.
woop vista is slow as hell with only 1Gb tho
and yea it did come as the 2X1 Gb shick bundle.. but they each came in seperate boxes... like one in each box.... just waiting for an e-mail with my RMA instructions but seems to be taking its time ( hour and a half
) i dont think ill have to send back both sticks... or i hope not cos i need this pc for uni work
if it doesnt say ill ring them back just to make sureSasso, if you got your ram as a 2Gb kit you will have to send both sticks back. It actually might be quicker dealing with Crucial direct. They are pretty good with RMA's.

spoke to crucial and they said they would only RMA it after 30days of purchase
