***The Official Asus Eee PC Thread***

All internal :) Im mounting the SD card reader in the ram bay, and will be putting the 16GB SD card in it as a second harddrive, I can then keep the external one as a removable drive (possibly booting OSX or Linux off it). The bluetooth is so i can use thing like BT mice and connect to my phone etc. (you can also get BT SD cards, so i want to see if you cn get CF ones as well and put it in my camera to shoot wireless and tethered). The GPS, TV and HSDPA would hopefully also be all added internally if they will fit, and will allow me to watch TV and surf the internet whereever I was. And to top it off I would also have built in satnavv. The ultimate gadget!:D

 wow surely theres no where near enough room for all of that in there!!! unless ya make a custom bottom panel thats a bit fatter :p

Messiah Khan - get a project log ready - loads of pics :D - cos that might sway me to get one...

Dropping £350 on something like this and fiddling with it to death will be entertaining and well worth it...

Be nice to see what the battery life is before and after too...

ps3ud0

Matter of opinion mate,

Personally yes,

Interesting things also depends what you class as interesting!

You can do most things you do on a full size laptop, not high res gaming though!

I have to say I'm loving my EeePC. It is pretty much a full functional laptop, I wouldn't personally use a laptop for games anyway. With an Nlite'd XP installation its super quick too, I mostly leave mine at 630Mhz even though its prime stable at 1Ghz (Also got 1GB Ram fitted too) because its still more than fast enough, I'm amazed by the speed actually.

How much did that lot set you back?

I would never have the confidence to take a soldering iron to any electrical device, especially a computer/laptop.

About £100 for everything. But things like the soldring iron will be used for other stuff as well. The idea of soldering stuff to the motherboard is daunting, but with plenty of reading and research it isn't too bad. I'll only need to make one solder connection on the motherboard anyway, the rest of the work is on cheap usb hubs etc, so as long as that one solder connection goes fine, the rest should be easy. :)

It will be tight, but i've seen similar amonts fitted in on other mods. The main problem will be fitting the arials without affecting the signal.

If you could get a small enough arial, could probably replace the webcam with an arial, no? Not sure how it would work though :p.

I was all set to buy a eee 900 when it gets released but i'm thinking waiting for the likes of Dell to release their UMPC's might be a little wiser.

Thank god the eee pc 900 didnt come out in black - with all these others coming out on the market it will help drive pricing down and also make the market more diverse.

Im liking the look of the HP one so far - first one to get the Atom will probably have my cash (Z530 please :D)...

Well you say that but I know there is at least one etailer where you can pre-order the eee PC 900 in galaxy black.

The 900 pretty much ticks all the boxes for me but I would like at least 40gb built in storage (SSD or HD), Intel Atom, a more standard resolution (1024x768) and It would be a good thing if all budget UMPC's stuck with Linux as this would keep costs down and get Linux in to main stream computers. Imagine being able to install all your favourate Apps and games on a free none M$ OS "heaven"

OK, so the first 900 review is out that i can see @ TrustedReviews (cant link for ovbious reasons)

Thing is, i see no mention of a touch screen, has this been officialy dropped or have i been in a hole for the last three weeks since the anouncement in late march? Or is it the later Atom model that'll have the touchscreen.
