***The Official Asus Eee PC Thread***

I use the 701 as my primary computer. I have a standard PC aswell, but I hardly ever use it now unless I'm doing something where I need the extra speed - the Eee's just so handy to have around. Because it's so small I just put it in my bag, hardly notice it and take it everywhere with me. People complain about the screen, but for me the screen is absolutely usable - just give it a try.

Yeah i thought it was going to take time to get used to, the only thing that is annoying i find (this is picking hard), is when sitting it on your lap, and its not perfectly sitting there, thats it really!

The resolution i thought was going to be far too small, but its definitely usable imho.

I don't think they are worth paying double. My advice to anyone who is looking at these... wait until more 701 owners go for a 900 and then pick yourself up a bargain 701 4gb at less than half price of a 900!

That's a good idea.

£329 RRP is just too much IMO. Hopefully the price will drop soon-ish though.

Im gonna hold off - really want one in black :p. Seen the 701 in the flesh and white just doesnt look that nice...

i have noticed a problem with my new EEE, when typing a lot of the symbols are not where they are indicated to be on the keyboard. e.g. the '£' symbol is not key 3 which it is indicated to be and '@' symbol appears for key 2 instead of the ' key, and the " symbol appears for the ' key instead of the 2, has anyone else had this problem and is it fixable?

My Mum has just picked up an Acer Aspire 2920z (C2D 1.6Ghz, 2GB Ram, 120GB HDD, 12" Screen) for £449 at a big supermarket. Very nice bit of kit and an awesome screen.
That's pretty nice actually thanks.
Thanks, but I've already got a nice 15.4" vostro 1500, looking for something smaller and lighter.

You've got it set to American keyboard layout

Could I ask which make/model you were thinking of, I'd like to check it out.
You read my mind - might put up a thread regards subnotebooks - I already use a 14.1" HP for work so really prefer something significantly smaller (or a nice 12" tablet ;))...

Ive just finished installing the touchscreen on my 701. Its mint! Its not quite perfect, as im getting slight bulging at the bottom of the monitor, but its still really cool. Browsing with the grab and drag plugin is a dream, as is photoshop. I love this toy! :D
