***The Official Asus Eee PC Thread***

Have been doing some modding over the last few days, trying to fit a USB hub. Unfortunatly im now having problems. The eeepc starts up ok, it POSTS ok, but seems to take ages when looking for the hardrive. It detects the SSD, reports the SMART status as OK, but then hangs on the next step. Ive gone into the BIOS and disabled it and the bootup process is much faster. So any suggestions as to what has happened? I suppose if it comes to it I can install XP to the SD and boot off that, but id really like the SSD to work again. :(

Fixed it. :) Seems like there was a tiny tiny tiny tiny bit of solder shorting two contacts. What weird effect that little bit of solder had on the computer. At least its sorted. :)

OK, so the first 900 review is out that i can see @ TrustedReviews (cant link for ovbious reasons)

Thing is, i see no mention of a touch screen, has this been officialy dropped or have i been in a hole for the last three weeks since the anouncement in late march? Or is it the later Atom model that'll have the touchscreen.
No touchscreen on the 900, asus are still thinking about releasing a 900 with a touchscreen at some point in the future. Same thing with the Atom, it's likely in the future, but won't be in launch 900s.

I'm after the 900 also :p Thought about it this morning and it has to be done. I can't justify it either, given that I only bought a Dell 1530 at the start of the year but who cares!

Mine will be kitted up with high flashy leds and go faster stripes! :D

I'm back to Uni in Sept for teacher training, an i recon an EEE 900 would be just about perfect. I've got a massive kick ass PC for gaming and office work, but a little portable i can shove in my bag when i cycle to my lectures would be ideal.

Oh woe for the youth of tomorrow when the teachers of tomorrow cannot even spell RECKON correctly, let alone punctuate a sentence with capitals and all! ;)

Hah, i'm going to be a science teacher, not a English teacher. Plus my typing for forums is different to how i would structure sentences when i am doing lesson prep.

When you know the difference between VSEPR (Valence Shell Electron Pair Repulsion) and orbital hybridization theories for predicting the geometry of molecules and about a thousand OTHER things, plus have the ability to pass that knowledge on in a coherent and concise manner......THEN you can bitch at me about the abilities of potential teachers these days.

Now that is small

Well my PC is portable...... i'm going to take it to uni.... and you have 17" laptops that are even more portable, so a small portable is more what i am looking at. A 9" is certainly a "little portable" in my book.

just ignore the troll :)

i dont think i'll get another eee tbf. I did it, it was amazing, but personally I have no real use for it to warrent the costs, it was used as a big media remote for a month, plus im building a watercooled file server type media box lol. If i get a job in summer, I'll see what other companies produce (dell etc) but I cant see anything beating the asus range, will probably pick one up :P

The looks of the 900 are very nice though, a lot more professional looking than the 701 :)

Hows it keeping tonyyeb?

Enjoying the Eee mate. Carry it with me everywhere... and everyone who sees it is impressed. My big boss wants one!

I agree with your idea. If I was in the market for a 900-like device then I would wait to see what other companies bring to the party. Give a few months then decide.

I have a 4G 701 and love it. But wait until others have got their Eee sized devices on the market before deciding. You may still end up with a 900 but you never know what else is out there.

I've till september.... maybe later if i hold off and stash some of the 9k i get in bursary for doing my course.

Maybe we'll even have the Atom EEE by then?

I'm going to wait a few months too, see what the Dell and MSI versions are like. Plus I'm skint at the moment anyway thanks to buying a Vostro :p
