Any opinions on o2 broadband?

I've had to leave O2, their home access package is horrible. 150ms latency at peak times, phoned support and they wouldn't even admit to congestion problems. They said the problem was with my internal wiring and there was nothing they could do. "we supply you a connection to the internet, we don't support gaming", to hell with that. I wish LLU was available in my town :(

You gain the extra upload at the expense of a little bit of download bandwidth, so unless you really need that upload you'll probably prefer the Premium service (Annex M vs Annex A).

Plus unless you're on top of the exchange you'll gain very little at all.

I'm connected on o2 since yesterday on their Access product. I had some connection problems last night but I think it might have been the o2 wireless box because as soon as I switched back to my old router it was fine.

How long afer ordering did it take O2 to schedule the activation for you guys ?

Ordered exactly 1 week ago, welcome pack with router arrived but on their website the activation date is still listed as 'not yet started' ?

That's certainly not normal, I'd give them a call. I got my activation date pretty much straight away,

Was a day or 2 from order date to activation date.

Thanks for that, I thought it should be quick too. Now I can't see the status of my order in the broadband section with the traffic light signals showing the stages, and just literally got a text from my mum in the last 10mins saying:

'Got txt to say we are connected to O2'.

Guess we are probably online with them, will have to talk to my darlking techno noob mother later. More likely to get a call from my younger brother whining about broken internet. But it might still be working if the settings are all the same as Be* were, as we have a DG834 router and a reset should in theory just automatically pickup the new connection with be* + O2 being essentially the same.

EDIIIT: Got another txt from mother saying: 'Txt said to plug it in, use CD, and enjoy'.

Crisis averted :D

I gave o2 my mac code yesterday and now have an activation date of next friday on the Pro Package.

What speed should i be expecting, I am exactly 86 meters (102 meters "Cable length") from the exchange.

Best way is to find your line stats, specifically your attenuation, from that you can get a good estimation of the speed you can expect. More info here.

I have a problem if anyone can help me with, I was just arguing with Ukonline over getting my MAC code since a friend disconnected with them and said they gave him the MAC code instantly over the phone... but when I did it they said by law its 5 days !

That means if I dont have my MAC code by Monday? I miss out on the Quidco offer !

Is there anyway around this issue or any ideas?

Thanks for the link, Very usefull.

Downstream Attenuation 3 dB Approx
Line Length 0.22 km

adsl2+ (LLU) 24000 kbps Throughput 21240 kbps

So it suggests i will get the full speed. Nice

I was activated two days ago and have been happy with the connection during the day but at peak times on the first night I saw my pings over 100ms (never seen them that high in my life) which concerned me a bit. The second night (last night) pings were OK but the connection was slow with downloads at just 50Kb/sec at times... I haven't seen my connection that slow since I was with BT about 2 years ago.
I really hope it improves and it's not like this every night. I think it has something to do with the huge numbers of people migrating to o2 with the Quidco offer, etc.

Is the "Scheduling your activation" dependant on availability of a BT engineer? Been stuck on a yellow light all week for an Access connection.

I haven't yet seen my pings drop below 120ms to bbc.co.uk since 20:00 last night, making gaming impossible. It looks like I will need to use the 30 day money back guarantee.
