I think if it were driver related then the monitor would have still responded when it went black (power light or anything) no? I suspect the power supply just getting too hot: when it happened I replugged the power cord into the back of the monitor with no response, same with the DVI cable, the only way I could get a response was by turning off the power supply from the mains.
Maybe yesterday's black screen was driver related, since it came back after 10 seconds, although I was still just idling when it happened. Confusing!

Also to make sure that I don't get another issue with the power supply, they're going to put the power supply from the HZ30W in with the new screen instead of the usual HZ24Wi one. Apparently they have a much lower failure rate.
