*** The iPhone 3G S Thread - All iPhone 3G S Related Stuff In Here ***

They may not have activated the phone when you bought the phone, so there is a chance there is nothing wrong with the phone just your o2 sim was not activated.

The issue to do with iphone apps crashing is related to DRM I think have a read of this first post and see if it helps...

That worked a treat.. thanks :)

On the activation issue.. i was told a max of 48 hours was needed for an account to be setup..

I'm still gonna pop in.. come of the accessories they sold me were pants too lol.

A little update in terms of my upgrade from the original 2G iPhone to my new 3Gs iPhone around SIM cards and 3G availability. As some poeple might have seen when I bought the new iPhone O2 simply took the SIM from my 2G device and installed it into my 3G device confirming that 3G should still work. At home I was seeing no 3G icon but it did show a few times when out and about. I had already spoken to O2 and they had sent me out a new SIM. Today I finally got around to installing the new SIM and bingo, I now have 3G at home too!

So it seems that even though my old SIM did work in some parts with 3G the new SIM works better. Now I know this really shouldn't matter a jot as 3G ability will either work or not but I now have 3G in my lounge and office which I didn't have with the previous SIM. Go figure!

Anyone know what the whole limited stock thing is with mobiles.co.uk? Ordered on friday, but is the stock already there or is it arriving monday and it's a case of "whomever ordered first, gets first dibs on what we have, everyone else in the queue waits till we get more"?

Well this sucks. I waited because I thought I could get 30% off because of the JLP discount but it turns out the 3GS is excluded from the deal. Jammy morons.

Anyhow, am very tempted by mobiles.co.uk and their cashback deal. Anyone had any problems with them or has everything arrived nice and quickly without problems?

Cheers

They were too busy to get my wifes out same day despite us ordering at 16:30, but it did then arrive saturday morning (after being told it wouldn't!). I doubt you'd have that problem now. The quidco cashback tracked fine and works with the BT headset code found on hotukdeals.

Just tried mine and worked with no problems. You could have a faulty socket but be aware that the new in-ear headset only works on the new iPhone 3G S and not the iPhone 3G.

More info.

Took the phone into the Regent Street store today. The staff were very suspicious and were surprised I was reporting a 3GS as faulty.
They replaced it after trying out various things to figure out the problem.

I don't remember the guy's name. He kept conferring with another guy who thought that I had jammed something in the headphone socket at first. He backed down when I told him that the phone was less than week old and had been rarely used because of the fault.

I've placed the order taking solace in the fact I can contact Ben should any problems arise. Hope the Quidco thing works because I placed an order and cancelled it before and it has started tracking that. I guess if it doesn't work they can sort it out anyway. They did seem to want to know an awful lot on the credit check though

Didn't bother with the free bluetooth handset as I've got it in my car and I don't believe in freeloading for the sake of it :)

My 3G gets hot when taxed, usually while playing games.

Seeing as this new model has a better GPU it's not that far-fetched to assume it runs hotter when pushed. Perhaps someone will care to clarify..

I doubt it goes pink or is hot enough to scauld you though :p

I'm thinking about getting an iPhone in the next few days and was just wondering what insurance options people have gone for?

I've seen the O2 one for £10 a month (which I think is ridiculously steep) and I've seen some 3rd party ones for around £5 a month.

I know there's the possibility of home/bank insurance covering this, but just wanted to know what other iPhone users have done in the same situation.

Cheers :)

Early morning trip to town later this week methinks, come on O2 get some stock now that I've clawed a cancellation code thingy from t-mobile :(

How do you find it ScarySquirrel?

ps3ud0

It is the best phone I have EVER had. I cannot put it down at the moment.

I am texting people pointless stuff just so I get to use it! haha!
The excitement will probably wear off soon but coming from a Touch HD on Windows Mobile (used for 6 months) to this is just unbelievable.

As an example, I got (stupidly seeing as it is an easy journey) lost on the way to Biggin Hill on Sunday, literally within 1 minute I had loaded up maps, found my location, found Biggin Hill as destination and had a route on the screen. Plus, with the built in compass functionality on the maps I knew where I was facing and where to go.

I had a similar situation with my Touch HD a few months back, took me about 4 minutes to actually get a GPS signal and find my location, then with more problems trying to do other bits within Google Maps on it, I ended up giving up completely.

I was also worried about the texting on it as I am not used to using a full on screen keyboard, but the text prediction is so intuitive and just makes everything so easy to do.

I was worried about the paying £440 for the PAYG version but my God I am glad I did. I am no Apple fan but this is one hell of a bit of kit! :)

Don't forget the landscape keyboard.. I keep forgetting because of habit, but it's that much easier to type when you remember it's there :)

I can't put my phone down either. Amazing what you can do with it and not that long ago mobile phones were JUST phones

Same here. Its hands down, by a country mile the best phone I've had. I liked my N95 and toyed with the idea of going to a HTC model but I'm really glad I didn't, especially after hearing ScarySquirrel. 1 week in and the novelty still hasn't worn off. It's a great phone, the interface is so slick !!

Only problem is..... I am shamelessly addicted to iMob.
