**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

Wow, 30 games of the season to turn things around, what an achievement :p. With proper motivation any squad can do well and yes he did gain 49 points after this, but with the squad he had at his disposal it was to be expected.

That's the thing though. Our squad was lacking all motivation due to a lack of a decent manager who could bring out the best in each individual.

We thought we had a world class manager in the form of Wendy Ramos, instead, we got a dietician. He banned Hudd from ketchup and went on his merry way.

Harry is doing what he did at Pompey. Bring out superb form from the players at his disposal.

Lennon in particular looked absolutely useless at the start of the season. Under Harry, he's a completely different animal.

Same goes for Modric too. He looked like a huge flop at the beginning of the season and finished it as one of our best, if not the best player.

Although I don't disagree that Redknapp is a good manager, just what circumstances did he have to endure? Surely having a European quality squad isn't that much of a burden?

They werent European quailty!

They were totally lopsided and they had taken 3 points from a possible 135 points(ish)

You just have to watch how Redknapp changed the team and where they finished to see that he is a quality manager.

:p 8 games, 24 possible points. Spurs took only two from their opening 8 leaving 22 points.

Changed the team? By resigning Defoe and Keane? I'm sorry but even before they did that they had a team to be jealous of.

:p

Not change in terms of signings, but by giving the players confidence and in some cases, teaching them how to play. :o

Best signing he made was Palacios. Absolutely 100% the player we needed in CM.

But thats the job of any manager, Allardyce did exactly that at Blackburn. To make a spectacle out of a man doing a job with a quality bunch of players seems a bit over the top to me. Like I said, Redknapps a good manager but I don't think he should be praised for getting Spurs out of a rut they were never really in.

This I also agree with, but this would have been a few months after he took charge. Palacios was definetely the better player on the park and if he hadn't gone off, I don't think we'd have won that game.

Palacios
A rare creature known to North London
A predatory animal, he waits silently until his prey grows ever closer
And then he pounces
There's blood
There's screaming
And you're 1-0 down
Bad times.

Well back on topic. Reports this evening are suggesting that any deal for Alonso is still far from completed. It appears that there was a meeting between ourselves and Real officials on Sunday however all that happened was that we told Real that there's no budging on the fee, which is rumoured to be around £30m up front and a further ~£5m in add-ons.

Why were they so bad then?

Liverpool didnt win the league, Portsmouth dropped like a stone, Spurs did well. - draw your own irrational conclusions.

Selling Keane was a huge mistake by Liverpool.

That doesnt matter, Spurs are a good team all of a sudden with the players back. Palacious was a great signing. They will trouble teams next season dont worry about that.

They were a good team before Redknapp, just poorly managed. I could repeat myself over and over but its getting late. I've not denied either that Redknapp is a good manager, all i've said is that Spurs had the quality before his arrival, it just wasn't being utilised by the people in charge at the time.

Anyway, back on topic...

Who exactly is that in the clip, I can't tell, assuming it is arsenal I can't tell who the player is, too small, looks like a single digit tallish player, judging by the team sheet it would be Ade/Gallas/Toure though so retarded it looks like it should be Song. Either way, Palacios gets FAR more credit than he deserves, I mean, a guy runs 30 yards, into a guy that hasn't move a yard at all, slows down, and then steps to the side, Owen could have made that tackle. He made so many painfully bad tackles that deserved red cards, infact loads of DM's seem to get away with terrible tackles with the notion that they are there to foul so its ok or something nuts.

Clearly some people would have been happy but the "tackle" he did on Ronaldo that the big girl had to hurdle was a horrific tackle, he launched two footed from miles away at his full pace ridiculously high, had Ronaldo not hurdled it, well, it would have been bad, frankly he did that all the time.

With too many DM's you simply have a guy that gets away with too many fouls which intimidates/scares the other players so they stop trying to go near them. Meh, he's decent, but he's not superb.

Likewise Redknapp is over rated, a side that massively underperformed with two players who knew they were off and were barely trying, one tired new striker and one midget not fit Modric who needed to gain match fitness. Redknapp just arrived as Modric became match fit, as Pav started to fit in better, etc, etc. Yes the manager gave them a motivational boost, but we see that with EVERY new manager at EVERY club EVERY time it happens.

They simply rode that hope for a new manager to play AS THEY SHOULD. Adam's didn't get that chance as, well, the squad was just horrifically poor with the best players out injured, then they lost their only quality striker to boot.

You are why i dont post here much.

"They were a good team before Reknapp, just poorly managed"

Redknapp became the manger.

The managers job is to use the players to best advantage?

God Almighty.

I give Mr Commitment 4 months max before he walks leaving Spurs in the bottom half.

Irony :o

Can't see him walking this season, think we've got another year or two of selling 1/4 of the squad and buying 8 players a season before he gets bored of not doing as well as expected and leaving for whoever's got the most money at that point.

Then again you never know, if Pompie offer him a job with the promise of spending like City have he'd be gone in a shot.

Senderos is being reported as basically having gone to Everton already which is probably very credible, while a less likely(I pray) rumour is again Arsenal being linked with Kalou.

Whats the deal with Adam Hammill? Everytime I've watched him play he looks like he's got so much potential and would benefit from a first team chance, but its in the news he's going to go on loan? Why? I dont get it. He looks head and shoulders better than Spearing and Plessis and some parts of his game actually remind me of Gerrard.

He was epic during the Tranmere game last week and dragged us through it on his own.

Am I missing something with this lad? I dont get why we're not using him.
