He is a cracking bloke, had a few beers to many with him after Silverstone and he is just one of the lads out of the car. There will still be a advantage for Seb, he can shift 10KG about that Mark cant which makes setup easier on that side of the garage.

My own feeling is that once Hamilton gets in the car, he will ensure that the McLaren finishes up at the top of the time-sheets.
And today he was.....not at the top of the time-sheets. 8th, in fact.

I do agree with one thing you said - teams do not sandbag (go slow on purpose) as it offers little benefit, but may place the team at a serious disadvantage.
While teams may not go slow on purpose, they may choose to run an entire test day (or even whole test meet) with never less than half a tank of fuel in the car. They can still get lots of useful testing done on a full car.
