What's even worse is that I think ITV have most of the England games, if not all?

Ridiculous.

It's like watching the game on YouTube.

Oh I hope not, going by this shoddy display, all they had to do was provide coverage of the game, nothing else and they couldn't even get that right. Whoever is responsible for that deserves the sack. Disgraceful ITV.

exactly I have no idea what the commentators are talking about. He sets up nicely then does just about everything possible to not score. That shot was perfectly at the keeper, like you couldn't have hit it more at the keeper.

The only time Heskey would not of hit the keeper with that shot, is if he was trying to hit the keeper with that shot.

Thats what they should tell him," aim for the Keeper Emile", he would instantly be a golden boot contender.

Poor tbh, too much hoofing, not enough trying to get it to Rooney's feet.

Heskey was poor, offside every 5 mins. Green is a berk, such a stupid mistake to make. Capello is a nutter for bringing on SWP who has no left foot to play on left wing, why not Joe Cole?!?

So King can't even play a full match now? Joke that we brought him along over a fit footballer.

The positives are Lampard and Gerrard were very good and I thought Johnson had a good game. Should still qualify comfortably.

The commentator's were damn annoying, it was like they'd been told to praise Heskey constantly.

The first 4 minutes were good, but after that it was pretty much back to normal.

No urgency in the last 15 minutes.. Just passing it around in defence as usual.

Agree with what others have said - The commentators must have been watching a different game. The opposite was true for nearly everything they said!

What a crap game that was to watch. That has been the worst game this WC so far. England were so poor I mean poor. Heskey will never score and thats a huge problem, and how the hell did SWP get sent on to play on the left when you Joe Cole should have had that role.

Also, Gerrard and Lampard cannot play together so Fabio needs to ditch one of them.

Greens mistake was epic fail. But the lump cost us just as much with his useless 1v1 effort =/

For me, Heskey was England's best player, but he did hit it straight at the keeper which was a bit lacking in composure tbh. In comparison, Rooney was pretty much non-existent throughout.

IMO Green should have done better for the shot that he deflected onto the post, he was a bit limp wristed there.

Thought exactly the same. He was saved by the post, just a couple of inches to the side then it would have been in. That was not his makeup save that the commentators were making it out to be.

The striker needs to get into a position worthy of service first.

Several times Lennon got in behind the defense but failed to show any composure with his crosses.

At the highest level you can't just aimlessly cut the ball back, you've got to look to pick a player out.

Rooney certainly didn't have a great game but all too often we looked to hit long balls up to Heskey rather that to build from the back.

Also, Gerrard and Lampard cannot play together so Fabio needs to ditch one of them.

Thought they played well (as a pair) today, Gerrard playing deeper for the majority of the time worked well.
Lampard was pretty disapointing when you consider his Chelsea performances, but still. As a pair they didnt do anything 'wrong' unlike previous attempts where it was a disaster start to finish.

I think that's what sets apart a good striker and an average striker.

The good striker will finish those chances 9 times out of 10, a deft flick over the keepers legs just far enough over to be out of reach.

Heskey demonstrated perfectly the average strikers style - smack it as hard as you can without any thought to control. It rarely works.

Joe Hart needs to be in goal next time. Certainly not Rob Green.

I can't understand why Joe Cole wasn't played, but Lennon and SWP were?

Meh.

Moron...

He saved a point blank shot that was goal bound and prevented it from going in.

Enough with the hate for Green, pipe down. Have any have you tried to play in goal in a competitive game?

Agreed I have no idea what the commentators were on about, it was more of a case that Green got lucky to deflect it on to the post than it was a great save.

Players which stood out: Gerrard, Heskey, Lampard, Johnson
Players which should have stood out: Rooney, A.Cole (should have been making some dangerous runs down the side), Terry (should have been a bit more prominent).
Players which should have been on the pitch: Joe Cole
