Best thing about tonight was the Pot Noodle advert.
I'm getting really tired of people* referring to stupid statistics.. yeah we drew the first match in 66 etc... give it up!!

Don't blame it all on Green. He's not responsible for the lack of goals in the US net.

*Not referring to anyone here. Strictly people on TV of course :)

England did play alright.

They really didn't, i'd be saying this regardless of the score, they need to improve if they want to get further than winning the group (heck, they might not even manage that).

The challenging was sloppy, the passing was abysmal, the ball was being hoofed into nowhere too often, they couldn't hold onto the ball well... the list goes on.

To be fair though, it's a bit harsh to criticise that when you look at the rest of the team and realise that was still amongst the best play we created all night. He was creating danger and troubling the defence regularly - more than can be said for most of the rest of the team.

I agree, I actually mentioned that on the whole Lennon done ok in an earlier post. I was just responding to skippi suggesting that the lack of service was solely down to the movement of the strikers.

Your post wasn't bad until that last sentence, which, given the tone of the thread, is borderline inflammatory :D

Well, yes, I did consider not putting that in. :p
But it is a good point to illustrate that everyone seems to be in uproar after the first game against pretty decent opposition. I don't think we will go beyond the quaters this Cup, but I do think we will grow into this tournament (at least a bit... ;).

Keeping the goalkeeping error aside, the rest of the team were terrible, the passing was shocking.

Lets be fair...Americans were just as bad in possession too...they had a few chances but they luckily got a goal from a basic goalkeeping error.

People who are laughing at the comments regarding Heskey's performance (as a good one) need to watch football more carefully. He DID play well but unfortunately when he had the one chance to put us 2-1 up he missed it. Against the top teams like Brazil and Spain you simply HAVE to finish those opportunities or at least force the keeper into a remarkable save.

The players who can hold their heads high are Gerrard, Heskey, Terry and Johnson (going forward)

Oh, if you ever needed evidence of why Carragher shouldn't be playing RB (yes i know he was playing CB but found himself in a full back position) just ask Altidore.

On another note King? If he can't play more than 45 mins he might as well **** off now. He's disrupting the team in doing so (obviously not intentionally). Get Dawson in there if he's going to continue to only play 45 mins.

  • "Capello pick me!"
  • "Why would I ever do that?"
  • "Fabio, do you know who my dad is? Oh and I am quite fast. Like, not as fast as Walcott or Lennon but like, quite fast. I can't really play football if that's gonna present an issue though?"
  • "Should be fine"

In a way it makes England's performance worse - that wasn't even against a strong USA, they had a pretty poor game themselves and given that, England really should have controlled the game.

Going by some of the comments, it's not hard to tell some of the 'real' football fans have come into the football forums.
Bit arrogant. Lots of people who aren't regular footy fans watch the World Cup and are entitled to comment.
