For me, Heskey was England's best player, but he did hit it straight at the keeper which was a bit lacking in composure tbh. In comparison, Rooney was pretty much non-existent throughout.
To be fair, im not asking him to score every 1v1 attempt but infront of goal he cant even get the basics right.

Several times Lennon got in behind the defense but failed to show any composure with his crosses.

At the highest level you can't just aimlessly cut the ball back, you've got to look to pick a player out.

To be fair though, it's a bit harsh to criticise that when you look at the rest of the team and realise that was still amongst the best play we created all night. He was creating danger and troubling the defence regularly - more than can be said for most of the rest of the team.

What a crap game that was to watch. That has been the worst game this WC so far. England were so poor I mean poor. Heskey will never score and thats a huge problem, and how the hell did SWP get sent on to play on the left when you Joe Cole should have had that role.

Also, Gerrard and Lampard cannot play together so Fabio needs to ditch one of them.

Well, far from convincing by England, but if there hadn't been that horrendous error from Green you wouldn't be saying this. England did play alright. Not brilliant, but it was decent enough. I think everyone just needs to calm down. This was by no means a disastrous performance in their opening game.

Just remember England's first game of the 1966 World Cup: an unconvincing 0 - 0 draw against Uruguay...

Moron...

He saved a point blank shot that was goal bound and prevented it from going in.

Enough with the hate for Green, pipe down. Have any have you tried to play in goal in a competitive game?

Watch the replay with a stronger wrist he could easily have pushed it out for a corner.

Anyone saying USA played better than us need not watch football again, England played poor, but USA was much worse.

Your post wasn't bad until that last sentence, which, given the tone of the thread, is borderline inflammatory :D

I've watched it many times. It's an absolutely phenomenal save. You shouldn't forget you're watching these replays in slow motion. Green doesn't have that in his locker...

Watching SWP is so ****ing painful, just never. ever. ever. does anything productive. He can't dribble and his end product is a joke.

England started with a draw in 58 also. Outcome: 1st round exit
