Amnesia: The Dark Descent

I played this game for about 40 minutes last night and it didn't feel that scary. Probably because I've played the penumbra series. The atmosphere is pretty good though.

Edit/update: Played again with turned off lights and volume up...I must say it's pretty scary in some parts!

I need to watch those videos in the dark at work so have sent the links to my phone and I will watch them at lunch in the boot of my car!

Havign seen the videos it would appear this game would not even make me cringe.

Maybe you're just a little fraidycat?

Some of us are fuelled by horror and all things scary!

I can't play a scary game or watch a horror movie unless it's completely dark and I'm sitting on the edge of my seat - it's a buzz!
 
What you guys think so far then? i've bought it but only played 5mins of it just to see what it's like as i got Penumbra series to complete first.(this seems to not run that well when completely maxed though? got an i7 920 with a 5870 but feels like it's 20-30fps near the start in some areas....this is with everything totally maxed though.)

Looks like a decent game however and the reviews seem good so far as it's got 83 Meta score but it would be higher if one site wasn't harsh as the rest was 80+ scores.

Did the start area seem a bit low fps to you though? i got that SSAO stuff on aswell and complete maxed to 128 on one of the settings in - forgot what it was.

Then again i haven't tried it with 4ghz this was with stock or could be just the start of the game also i am using 10.8s too but no issues at all in other games.

Maybe it's that blurring effect causing it because i had that on....guess that's SSAO or whatever it is?

sorry mate i stand corrected - I did not notice the SSAO dropdown.

yeah it's smooth and playable but at 128 the frames goes down.
 
SSAO must surely be much more taxing on the GPU in this game because EVERY aspect of the environment is constantly moving.

On a separate note; I'm not entirely convinced that our protagonist is not a smack head lol.
 
Doesn't it just effect shadows? did you find it noticeable having it on then i guess?:p

Ah just noticed your above post....guess it's not worth having on 128 then.

128 SSAO is a fps killer, and I don't know what it does visually. I put it on 16 and get 60fps constant.
 
Anyone completed it yet? :p

In the game's redist directory there's a super_secret.rar file which contains hidden goodies :p
 
I tell ya one thing i did get , nausua... i think i'm going to go puke now lol :rolleyes:

Looks like i have to be careful what first person games i play , damn inner ear inbalance :mad:

Had to uninstall it , for shame
 
I ended up uninstalling the game, I got bored of it, the graphics are average by today's standard yet SSAO at 6 cripples my GTX460 in places (22fps) yet even Bad Company 2 in DX11 with HBAO enabled with 16xCSAA gets 45-60fps at the same resolution.

Also because the game is slow paced I never got the sense of urgency. Games like Doom3 are slow paced as well but you're still able to briskly move along while evading ghouls & ghosts.

Meh.
 
Loved the demo but my monitor seems to have developed a lot of light bleed since I have been away on holiday which really ruins the experiance :(

Might still get it and just force myself to play with the brightness turned up a bit.
 
Definitely getting this! The hand icon reminds me of that used in VtM: Bloodlines. :p
