Amnesia: The Dark Descent

How have I missed all these previous horror titles? Penumbra!? I've never heard of it! I'm getting this when I get back from holiday and the darker nights draw in, looks awesome

Unfortunately I really can't see this doing much better than Penumbra with the level of advertising that it has. It doesn't even have a trailer where everything explodes every 5 seconds and someone speaking in macho action man voices and being on Steam it will also probably end up relatively unknown to mainstream market which is a shame. I also hope that I'm wrong and they do get rewarded for their efforts.

The demo was bad and has turned me off completely tbh, I was expecting some run away from zombie thing an hide in closet. ALL you get instead is your character trippinnn, some doors closing in the wind and some water that can kill you, not scary at all bad bad demo. Although the full game might be slightly better I'd rather not risk £10 on it :)

From what ive seen so far, the water monster thing does become personified later on I guess as you become more ****-yo-pants scared and it becomes stronger. Also there was a random zombie thing wandering around with more t ofollow from what the dev clips showed. I am unsure if you are able to hide in the many closets though as the brooms are already cowering in there and they might not want the company.

I think you're missing the point of the game a bit...

stuck in penumbra overture already - at the bit where i need to switch on this machine thing to open the gates. so i put in a battery and replace the fuse but you need to turn the wheels in the correct order

Maybe but the game is meant to be truely scary right? And tbh it never really was so obviously the demo didn't do a very good job imo.

I guess it's just your scare tolerance. If you don't get scared, the game probably won't do much for you :). I would buy the full game though, I didn't find the demo too scary, I'm sure there will be lots more.

EDIT: I'm a fool, I was entering the wrong key to get the download from their website. Downloading it on Steam now.

Debating whether to get this. I played penumbra for a while, but after creeping about ****ing myself for a few hours I gave up for the sake of my health :p. I do, however, love that there are decent devs out there making good games so if I do get it I won't feel bad if I can't hack it. There, I've talked myself into it lol.

havent had a chance to play this yet but i hope its as much as, if not moreso, about puzzle solving and story development as it is about being frightening.
