Forgot how bad job searching was :(

Junior Lab technician within specsavers how smashing is that! :)


There was people with loads of experiance i had NONE whatsoever.

The reason i got it? I went in the store n made friends with people and when i had an eyetest and they just let me know about the vacancy without asking then the manager offered me the first interview where i went up against other people in a group interview and i got called back again twice.

!!!! Going up against people with dispencing degrees and other people with experiance and degrees and I GOT THE JOB!


:) Im going to go the whole route with these guys I want to do optomitry :) and I can get sponsered through them to do it.
 
Went for an interview on Monday and just found out I got the job :D. Would be working for an oil & gas engineering consultancy firm, but for the first 6-12 months would be contracted out to work for Centrica/British Gas as an Allocations Engineer. Really wanted this job as it's a great opportunity to get into upstream oil and gas :D.

How's everyone else getting on? Sorry for the slight thread resurrection!

Excellent :) I hope it only gets better and better!

I started a job end of July in a school, seems to be okay so far...Bit less 'high level' work than I'm used to, but it's a job at the moment in this market....Pay is low, so I have just about enough money after rent and bills etc to kind of enjoy myself each month :p
 
Handed out like 15 cvs over a couple of weeks, no call backs :(

Went into jessops, seemed pretty glad that someone came in with photography experience that got my hopes up but aint heard nothing back, guessing they wanted someone with retail experience
 
Not having much luck and no call backs from anything I've applied to. Got an interview tomorrow with a large bluechip for a role starting next September but it'll be nice if I can nail it and have a plan for next year should I get it.
 
So ive been working in the lab for spec savers the last 2 days and its been good.

I dont start my first portion of training till end of this month so im stuck doing more adminny type things.

Ive been mainly tinting glasses and uv'ing them also packing and cleaning them ready to go upstairs to be collected and completeing orders.

I cant do any machineing till i start going through my trainining.

But the things ive been doing are really physical. I enjoy working there the people and managers are close like a lil family its cool but the work atm is harsh n ive been working off my ******* lmao i know its only been 2 days but god damn ive worked hard.


Also as soon as i started i see another job add for something i really wanted to do which was with the MOD as a communications officer.

Cant hurt to apply right? thats something id WANT!


Argh im stickin it out man the training will make things better aye.
 
Still no luck here. Getting quite desperate at the moment so I'm applying for any old job!

As much as I think I'd hate supermarket work, I applied for a new Tesco store that was opening very near me. They must have thought I wasn't up to it though as everyone else I know who has applied already has interviews lined up.
 
For anyone searching for IT support related jobs, hammer monster, totaljobs, jobserve, indeed and cwjobs. When they dont call you back, call them.

I had most luck with totaljobs, ended up having 1 call on average a day in the week from agencies, 4 agency meetings, getting 10 interviews and going to 6 interviews. I was out of work for just over a month.

Maybe I just dropped on but I like to believe its because I prepaired before interviews (thanks again to huddys guide) updated my CV to suit the company based on what agencies told me etc

Good luck to everyone looking for a job, it sucked donkey balls going in to claim benefits with the scrotes who had blatently been on them for years and had not even been looking for work(although I actually had more money when I was redundant than when I had a job before!!)

I agree, from every recruiter I've spoken to, the fact you bother to tailor the CV to their company shows you're genuinely interested, and willing to make the effort. Furthermore, it means you gain an insight into their product/business processes, which is a great plus for their interview.
 
Got another telephone interview on Monday with a large global IT company.

Hopefully will go ok, plus I can't see the job advertised anywhere on their site or on recruitment sites which could be a good thing. I saw it on a site for a certain certification I have that has a 'job board' in the members area.

Guy got back to me pretty quickly saying he wanted to telephone interview me, and that he also wanted to speak to his colleague about another set I've skills I have unrelated to the position he posted :)
 
That one went ok, on the phone for almost an hour, people seemed really nice and job would be lovely.

Now got to wait until the end of the week to see if they want me for a face to face interview, really hope so but get a feeling I could be disappointed :(
 
Losing the will to live at the moment.

Been out of work for just under a month.

Applied for 8 jobs. Got turned down for one for being over qualified. The others just have not even bothered to get in touch. :(
 
Guys Always ask for a JOB trial that means they can take you on and trial you in the workplace for say a month they may decide after two weeks they want you.

Anyhow while they job trial you they have to take there advertisement for the job down.

Always ask for this :) employers who know about it will give you a chance and it always guarentees you some sort of chance of a job.
 
I may aswell join this thread, been looking for design related jobs, applied for 2 today but there seems to be nothing going at the moment.

I'm severely depressed with it all. Having to take a year out because I ****** up at uni is finally hitting home and taking its toll. Completely run down.
 
A question for those that have been on JSA. I signed on a few weeks ago after being away and will be heading off to uni (masters so not continuing study) next week. I have a standard meeting on wednesday with the JSA, do I just need to tell them then that I will be going next week and I'll get the money up to the sunday, or do I need to ignore it then ring up on the friday or so?
