Forgot how bad job searching was :(

Some more advice. Start bugging/chatting to people you interact with most days. I go to the corner shop most mornings to pick up the paper. I want to get into journalism and I was just talking to the woman behind the counter, who has known me since I was a nipper, and we had a conversation about what I'm doing now since finishing my degree. I found out her sister works at news International and she told me she'd ask her sister about any opportunities going.
Just be selfish, start getting your intentions out there. You never know who might be able to help.

recruitment fairs are always good

This is a top tip.

Finding work is tough but if anyone is like me, who appears to interview well (never been turned down after interview, though expecting this to change now), recruitment fairs are great. Getting in front of the employers is the hard part.

Well, just got through my ENG1 Seafaring Medical, the last obstacle between me starting my Engineering Officer Cadetship in January at South Tyneside College in January. To say I'm excited is an understatement. I've been looking for a way out of the office work I've just drifted into for years, it seems surreal that it's actually happening.

Had a rubbish interview today, but got a job offer (albeit very insulting for my qualifications and skills). Got home and got phone call inviting me to final interview for a bluechip grad scheme next week which is for immediate start. Also got some intermediary retail work for the time being as I apply to grad schemes. Happiest I've been in ages! :)

Excellant, sadly, if there is nothing else coming at the moment, go for it...i've had to take an 8k pay cut with my latest job, just because i couldn't afford not to take it basically! I'm hoping they realise m potential and shoot me up the ladder a bit :)

Ahh best of luck to you, hopefully something comes along :(

Indeed!....No like? :p

Although, as you can guess my music tastes are reasonably random....considering I have a Metallica symbol on the same page ;)

Are you kidding, I love MOH! Have a big thing for Dutch Hardstyle too :)

I know you found your job in a similar way, and well done. But as people have said before this isn't how it works in a lot of professional jobs.

I got my first summer job and shop job whilst at school by just asking though, the shop job there wasn't even a vacancy but they liked me so gave me a job. Worked there on and off throughout school and uni for 5 years.

heheh No mate i didnt get this job in question by asking for a job trial.

I had to have 3 interviews with by some amazing streak of luck passed all 3. The first was a group interview.

I have had luck in the past with job trials though thats why i mentioned it.

Understandable I guess :) Both good and have their place...More hardcore for myself really in preference.

Sadly due to having no money I don't go away as often now :( Once went to Germany / Netherlands 6 times? In one year :p lol.

InQontrol April, Black June-ish, nature one August, Syndicate then Nightmare in rotterdam :p All good fun.

Once I get more money and pay for rent easier I may go away more :p

Thats my motivation for getting a job right there :p

Anyone had to apply for design or web related jobs recently? What was your search method?

This has been weeks now and I've only came across 6 odd jobs to apply for. Through searching agency websites, job sites, job centre, google....

Would cold calling be a better option or sending emails to every agency in Glasgow?

Letters if you can afford the paper / stamps etc :)

Just send a bulk load out to design campanies saying you are getting into the industry and wondering if there are any jobs available at the moment and give a breif history if you have one

I would normally do that for the likes of retail jobs and whatnot however I was thinking digital agencies.....digital mail....direct links to my work and portfolio. Not sure!

Had an assessment centre today for a grad role, paying good money and good travel. Both my assessors said they thought I was at the top level of what they expect. Fingers crossed really. Find out in the next week or so if I have a job there.

Had three interviews in the past week, all went reasonably well i think... Hopefully i get atleast one of them.

Anyone been looking for a job in their specialism for an extended period? I've been going nuts for 22 months now. I'm a young(ish) pilot with over 4000 hrs jet experience. Aviation is Bawked!

I've heard of a few people struggling in niche positions. Most have settled for different jobs completely and are just looking for their ideal role outside work hours. I can imagine your frustration.

Dropped the chap an email who I had the telephone interview with last week to let him know I'm on holiday for the next 2 weeks, partly as a veiled attept to see if I could get any info.

He wrote back right away apologising for the delay but they are really busy at the moment, so whilst not a yes it wasn't a no so fingers crossed.
