Forgot how bad job searching was :(

Any decent job in the industry you war will be a fair commute for you :p

Where in Bristol and who for?

Tell me about it, lucked out with my current job.

Filton, people who make planes :) No idea if I'm what they are after for the job though, will see tomorrow morning...

Cool, what time you due there? Traffic can be a nightmare around that area, especially as they are messing with the roads at the moment.

Was only a telephone interview, got an email an hour before hand though saying the guy is ill and can I just answer the questions and email them in today.

A bit more notice would have been nice as had to rearrange the whole day around it grr.

That's rather annoying, as should you give good answers they will still want to speak to you on the phone before inviting you to a face to face :(

Yeah nevermind though, they want them back by tomorrow morning so at least things are being delayed much.

They are only faffy/general questions too, nothing specific to the role, all that 'what's your weakest area' guff.

Got an interview today for a finance companies IT dept in South Manchester. Basically 1st/2nd line support but job description says they will put you through MS certs which is pretty cool and at 18-22k its a good 3k more than my previous role with the NHS should I get it.

Hope I get it, I just hate interviews though!

Got a phone interview with DPD today, hopefully it'll go well! Hope they don't require me to have a drivers license either and its just a customer service role!

Meh just had a chance to read the questions they want me to email them back answers to, all the standard 'Please describe 1 area that you feel you need development in and why?' kind of questions.

My estimation of somewhere always goes down when they start asking these stock kind of questions :p

Didn't get the job I was interviewed for the other week, so still looking.

Starting to get slightly worried as although I'm claiming job seekers, they reckon I have too much in savings to get paid anything, and despite paying into the system for 23 years when I was working, they only take into account the past three (when I was a full time student at Uni) for contribution based payments.
So basically I have to spend all my life savings before they'll pay me anything at all : (

Looking for something in IT (as that's what my degree is in), but don't want to be a software developer and that's what everyone is looking for at the moment.

Hey wozzizname have you tried The Register's job board (or maybe theitjobboard.co.uk)? Looks to have quite a lot of general IT jobs on it at the moment. Good luck.

So ignoring development, what in IT is it you do/want to do? It's still a pretty damn big area even discounting development :)

Indeed it is - my main priority is to get my foot in the door somewhere to get a better idea first-hand of what I most want to do.

I spent years as a BT technician and would be interested in learning more about networking, however I learned little about it during my degree where my focus was on databases and SQL, so that's another possibility.

Alternatively I'd be interested in something more business focussed, requirements gathering / report writing, maybe project management that kind of thing - it all sounds a bit vague, I know, but I just want some IT industry experience as my BT experience doesn't seem to count for much so far.

Still looking but getting interviews at a few random places now. Mainly small marketing agencies. I've build up a relationship with some specialist agencies who are continuing to search for me. Hitting the high street next week to look at part-time retail work to get me off jobseekers. Trying to stay positive :)
