The new Orange Android phone (San Francisco) £99...but a Question??

Anyone else using the pattern unlock feature? the touchscreen keeps spazzing out and it becomes impossible to draw the pattern to unlock the phone.

I've disabled pattern unlock and everything is fine.

Works fine here. I did find it got very unresponsive once, and when I was in I checked the task manager and it turned out an app was using 100% cpu. Was fine once I killed the app.

When it comes to mobiles I'm completely behind the times, what is this recovery stuff I keep hearing about?

Recovery mods basically allow you to recover from most situations where things could go wrong (eg failed rom loading, phone decides it hates you and self bricks). They also provide other features like the ability to modify files without loading the OS (critical if you wanted to mod part of the OS like the battery meter or radio driver). It's this latter feature which allows people to install whole new roms basically.

You can also perform full backups which are pretty useful.

Does anybody know what settings I need to change to get the internet access working using an o2 payg sim?

Internet works ok on my old phone using this sim card but not on the San Francisco. I have unlocked it and calls and texting works fine just no internet access.

See those icons along the bottom (phone, icon of a person, the middle button that leads to the "app drawer", text message smiley face and the globe). For some reason they don't work at all for me when I tap them.

They did at first, but when I removed them or tried to replace them with another icon shortcut, it either didn't work or else opened the previous application it was shortcutted to (i.e. the globe icon, if I replaced that with the text message smiley face, it would still open the browser).

Anyone else had this issue or knows how to fix it?

Yes change icon doesnt change the app, think you have to have them where they are

Hmmm. When I try to put the phone icon back to its original place (like where you have it) it still doesn't open anything. Do I need to drag the 'dialer' app itself into that dock? Or create a new shortcut?

Thanks for the advice but I have no idea what you just said there!!

Phoned O2 only to be told that they can't help as it is an Orange branded phone. Has anybody got this working on O2 without doing what BalbOwa advised?
