The New Stargate Universe Thread

I think traditionally tuesday has always been a good night for getting viewers (apparently). Although it doesn't seem to have worked in this case.

The way SyFY have handled most of their sci fi stuff this year/last has been just weird, especially with insanely large breaks in between the first and second half of some seasons. I think this plan to spread out new content over the year has kind of backfired on them.

I wonder how many UK viewers it's been getting on Sky One in the UK, Space in Canada and as legal downloads from places like the rainforest place. Not that it makes any difference, but it would be interesting to see how popular it really is is.

It's a sad day when something god aweful like Dancing with the stars gets 19million viewers and decent sci-fi gets less than 1mill :(

Dancing with the stars taps into every womans desire to be a fantastic dancer and have a tall, dark and handsome partner who romances the hell out of her.

Stargate panders to every nerd that wishes that we flew through space and met aliens.

Bit of a no brainer on the ratings front. Cant stand dancing with the stars but the parents love it.

They were saying on the Gateworld podcast that it would be interesting to know how many people in the US downloaded SGU via iTunes but figured that it would be a bad idea for MGM to release that information as knowing an HD ep costs $2.99 or whatever it would give away their earnings for that revenue stream.

Have SyFy said what the plan is regarding how long the break will be? Hopefully not another lengthy one like Season 1 had :/

Same length of break as Season 1 as far as I'm aware.

Well first of BSG IS AND WAS AMAZING TV! Regarding this i enjoyed the last episode i wont go into detail dont think i can due to rules.

New relationship starts up wont say who but i think will please many people here. then goes abit mehy in places due to not enough character depth but were used to that since its hardly ever touched upon.

One thing again with this episode it did so many things right and nearly took a risk and then went to its usual plan b uhm dunno if thats too risky and opts for safe option :(

Ill still watch it thou :P

Man this here is the very problem of SGU

If i didn't know better you are describing an episode of EastEnders or Coronation street, Not a franchise that has consistently produced good watch-able 1h slots of fun action comical sci fi for years and years.

i don't know why BSG was so popular, personally. I found it bloody drawn out and boring only a few episodes and sub plots were really good.

Now its been emulated in the SGU and it just doesn't work its boring as hell.

I moan every bloody episode lol, ill moan when its pulled off too. :D

BSG pulled it off because it had a more interesting backstory, some really interesting actors/characters and enough action, etc. to offset it.

SGU is a lost cause imo.

bg had epic space battles what has SG:U had so far? barely any action orientated episodes for a start even when the lucian alliance boarded the ship it was alll very MEH.

not exactly like the cool episode in BG which was almost identicle accept it had tons of tension and action

I know, they've completely got Rush's character wrong. That said, i was kinda of expecting him to be a Picard-esque sort of guy. How many episodes has he not slept for now?

there was no progression though at all, it was paramount to Bobby Ewing in the shower tbh. With the exception of Chloe going partially silver and a "GET UP SOLDIER !!!!!!11" speech absolutely nothing what so ever happened.

pretty much every episode then..

dont expect much from the lastest aired american episode either, the preview for the one after that looks pap aswell

Is it against the forum rules to start an SGU thread, where we can talk about the US episodes?

yes, been tried before for other series and have been locked.

Enjoyed taht episode, but why can;t scifi move away from 1 episode, 1 problem star trek mantra.
And more like other series. Where the story line just progresses through every episode

As i remember Star Trek had several double episodes in a series, and more than one problem in an episode. Of course, ignoring for a second the fact that the plot for SGU was largely ripped off from Voyager i did only watch Star Trek from TNG onwards.

SGU could be/have been so good, if only it had some decent writers, or somebody to whack some sense into them.

even double episodes, more than one problem. They are still self contained stories that pretty much have no relevance to the story or series.
