The new Orange Android phone (San Francisco) £99...but a Question??

I,m using the Modaco 2.2 Alpha r2 which so far for me has been very reliable I have not had any freezes or crashes since using it. Also my battery life has almost doubled compared to the orange Rom. Make sure you flash it with Clockworkmod 2.5.0.9 as I found the latest version caused the Rom to fail install..
As said, I discovered the new clockwork "qwerk" last night and have already got that sorted!

I will give Modaco a go tonight.

I think she will be chuffed to pieces with it :)

Yes, the original orange Rom is awfull and full of bloatware that runs in the background. I have been using the Modaco 2.2 with a few customisations of my own and it is so much better. My battery life has doubled and I have not had a crash in days.

Just make a back up of your original Rom and try some others if you dont like you can always re-flash back to stock but I guarantee you wont... Just remember to re-boot a few times after installing the Roms..

I may give it a go next week as i'm off work then.

Can you provide any links to the Modaco thing? I really have no idea about it all and reading up on it first would be handy :)

You also mentioned the "Clockworkmod 2.5.0.9"...Whats the whole reason for 'flashing' it with this if you are then putting a ROM onto it? Whats the ROM part? :p

Sorry :(

If you have a read of the first post of this thread there are links to the Modaco guides as well as the O/P,s links that cover everything you really need to know tbh.

ClockworkMod is like a pre-loader. It is essentially a bios for the phone enabling some basic tools to assist in flashing etc. Once you have installed clockworkmod you can make a backup of your existing system, clear caches format partitions etc. You can also install Rom,s (Operating System) from Zip files that are stored on your SD card. It makes things a lot less hassle and also gives you some tools as well...

The only thing the guides don't make clear is that you need to install the usb driver on your pc (mines vista) before you do the clockwork thing, there is a special one that is on the forum which doesn't take much finding but the guides about putting clockwork don't mention that stage, its kind of obvious in retrospect but worth noting.

San Fransisco Android 2.2 OLED version... The screen is by far the most immpressive part of the phone its really worth trying to get an OLED one if you can..

I did not need a driver i,m on win 7..? might have installed itself in something else i downloaded.

Its easier to just plug the phone into the Pc with the USB cable and copy to the memory card, saves keep taking the card out.

Def needed one in Vista32, it went through the standard new hardware found and wanted a driver...

Moogley, those screen pictures do look nice.. I just know that in this case the white one will be preferred and she has never seen the oled one so won't miss it :)

How do you know if you have an OLED one then?

If you look at the screen side on an OLED screen has no light bleed. A TFT screen will have light bleed from the backlight.

The orange logo screen is the best to look at with the oled its jet black and bright orange, with a TFT its a dark grey and faded orange.. If you have not flashed that is...

been lookint at one of these the last few day's and have managed to find a store with some stock, but was just wondering can you update the android to the latest version or is it stuck with wat it comes with. hows the phone for customising also ive never had an android before so how easy are they to get along with? i quite like MOOGLEYS destop layout so how would i go about changing it to that? also whats the gps like on it and can you use apps like sports tracker's and walking apps?

Yes you can customise it anyway you wish, mine is running Android 2.2 see 1st post in this thread. GPS works well and yes you can use walking apps etc the Android store has hundreds of apps.

Was that the Orange shop in Westfield? If so it could be the same clueless monkey my mate ended up speaking to last Saturday, rude and had no idea.

We didn't buy one in the end. He's seen mine and really wants one but think he's just going to order of the net :)

Yeah, tried both Westfield and the one near HMV. Both had none in and the staff there are absolutely moronic.
