Marvel Vs Capcom 3

You mean unblockable assist ckc fighter 3.

No mashing launchers like a muppet in marvel :-)

unblockable assists don't sound too skilful!

I thought mvc always had those air launchers where you can then slap your opponent in mid air by mashin through the low, med and high attacks?

That's not the mvc2 control scheme. You have lp hp lk hk assist 1 and assist 2. Not sure what you mean with low med and high.

Launchers for iron man for example are jhk sj lp lp lk ufhp to loop or lp clk clp sj into air combo.

FYI all vs games have unblockable iirc, as does sfiv/ssfiv.

Edit: think I read you post wrong but it takes too long to edit text on my phone.

A lot of people I know are doing the same. Finally an aggressive popular modern fighter to replace down back masher 4.

Good! I am really looking forward to the change of pace, people are already talking of keepaway teams which seems odd to me in a game like this...I'm going for a pretty rushdown heavy team, not quite sure what that will be yet though.

The thing I'm most concerned about is learning when to use assists and using them in combos, it'll probably be easier in practice, I do tend to overthink and get intimidated by things. My SSFIV is getting thrown out of my disc wallet and permanently shelved.

Will definitely have to party up with you on it for some games.

Never put time into SSF4, played it a bit and then stopped... why are so many quiting? Bored or something else?

Most people will say its because SF4 is slow and predictable bla bla bla... (but that didnt stop them from putting the game down for such a long time).
But the game is a couple of years old now (the SF4 franchise that is) and MvC3 offers a change of pace...

And Im sure that come a couple of years, people who say they are going off SF4/SSF4 now, will say a similar thing in 2 years time about MvC3 :) Which Im sure most would agree is the nature of interest in games in general.

It's a very simple game (which is a huge part of its popularity, anyone can pick it up and fully understand everything in hours), and one that is dominated by defensive strategies such as zoning and turtling. If a player picks a character, it's very predictable how they will play that character compared to other fighters, making the game very dry.

Most decent players seem to be looking for something deeper, with a much wider variety of play styles (MvC3 has rush down, gimmick, counter, zoning, chip, trap, spam teams etc.).

A lot of us seemed to have played SSF4 just because it is so popular. Hopefully MvC3 will be just as popular, although I think a lot of people won't be able to handle it and will run back to SF4's simple system.

Edit: Arcade Edition of SSFIV does seem to remedy a lot of issues, adding 2 top tier rushdown characters, crippling the overpowered turtles like Rog and Guile, and nerfing fireball characters across the board (buffed anti fireball moves, added counter hit properties when you hit characters in their cooldown from fireballs). A lot of the dryness has been removed too such as making Bisons scissors have more pushback, removing Cammy's tkcs, and adding frames to Dhalsims blk to reduce spam of safe moves.

To be fair I've barely played SFIV in months, I go on from time to time to practice the odd combo just to keep myself up to scratch but that is mostly in prep for MvC3, didn't want it to feel alien going back to my stick after a long time off.

Getting MvC3 next thursday and spending a good amount of time working some stuff out, I just need to read up on teams/assists, I guarantee I end up picking a 'stupid' team combo with retarded assists or something...

Yeah I did notice that MVC3 looks abit more 'noob friendly'. I love the art style of the game, I just have no idea what "launchers" and stuff means but I am sure I will come to learn all this. I know the game has a very VERY good training mode so I'll spend a lot of time in there.

looking forward to a game, where there is no bs magic throws and a world where mashing dp(ultra) would not save your life

Excellent thread Margaret thanks. I'm learning already.

@ vian

lol magic throws?

notice how mashing throw beats most things in sf4? or how you tried to throw someone but get thrown instead? or how you thought screw this and mash on tech but get thrown anyway.

thats what i call the online magic throws, deadly after you do a l1 focus to blow though their attacks and dash forward...there is a good chance you get thrown and take double the damage

I always put his down to me not being as good as my opponent rather then blaming it on 'online'. Using throw is a crucial part of SF4. I played Madbeats the other day and he was throwing me around for joke, he was reading me like a book but everytime I tried to throw him he blocked it. If we had played offline, it would have been no different. It is very annoying when you feel you have teched a throw but still get thrown, I always put it down to myself not hitting/timing it correctly...

Are we going to have an OCUK league for MVC3 too?

Someone may run one. I would join just for a laugh but like yourself I am new to MvC games aswel, it looks so hectic on screen it is hard to see sometimes whats going on. =/

I see :P

Yeah playing Sim I kind of had to get good at teching, I use crouch teching a lot.

i will join. but i have absolutely no idea how to play the game.
