****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

Basically you can change the bolt on one you get with the online deals, but be wary that it seems that the actual speed of your connection is limited with these and some have had success lifting this with tmobile while others haven't.

This is now the only mobile data allowance they do. You will have to ask if it is a bolt on when you talk to tmobile as it depends on the deals they are doing. But if it is a bolt on and you remove it you will have to probably pay for each day or even the amount you use which will be expensive.

So in future if Im using Odin, would I have to do the root part every time as per the XDA guide or is that just to unbrand it, and future updates can just be step 1 of the guide?
Yep, every time. Flash firmware then root. Cf-root preferred or the insecure kernel method. Which ever method you prefer. Updating via Odin IS the same as debranding, you just get stuck with the branded product code. Be careful following guides, they can get out of date fairly quickly. Make sure you understand why you're doing a particular step, if in doubt ask.

1) When I plug my phone in to Kies, it now doesn't display the firmware details. fornowagain you mentioned there would be a mismatch in the product code and firmware, so I am assuming this is the reason why. Is there anyway to match these up (change the T-Mobile product code)?

2) Where do I check the firmware counter?
That's not so straight forward. You can select CSC from a menu to set XEU as a local area, which will fix local APN's issues with firmwares. But the actual productcode is set in a binary file (nv_data.bin) with an associated md5 hash file. You can hex-edit these, but its not something I'd recommend unless you can use the ADB shell with confidence and know what you're doing with the files system. Spoofing it temporarily is a better bet > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=959806 Personally I'd stick to using Odin, far more reliable.

In download mode, it'll list the unofficial firmwares.

Can anyone help me with this phone, basically when i close apps, they still run in the background like whatsapp i will kill the app, but it restarts itself for some reason??

A lot of them will. If you really find them annoying (Hubs yuk) root then install Titanium Backup and freeze the apps you don't want to use any more. Do one at a time and see what happens.

Yesterday after a full charge it took forever to kill the battery, and I was using it constantly all day long! Im suprised how long it lasted compared to my N900 :D

Day 2 with my S2:

Today after a full charge (which seemed to take forever) the battery has already lost one bar, though has only been unplugged for 30mins

I see some threads in google about battery draining but everyone says its a different process. Just wondered if anyone here had experienced any battery problems?

Edit: fornowagain, just seen your reply sorry. I am in doubt... so will ask... lol, whats cf-root? Is that an original kernal but rooted? Therefore you dont have to use a unsecure kernal followed by the original one after... You just flash... and "cf-root"?

It's a modified kernal, that pre-rooted and Clock Work Mod, SU app and busy box all installed, so basically don't have to fart about manually patching a kernal with super one click.

Ok this maybe a totally noob question but I keep seeing people say to make a nandroid backup but am not sure how to go about this? I have a rooted phone with KE7, did it by using ODIN if that makes a difference.

Been reading through the last few pages to catch up since I've been away and didn't see this answered..

You can only do a Nandroid backup in a custom recovery, like Clockwork for example, unless the Samsung recovery has it that is.

So re flash with one of Chainfires kernels, to get Clockwork if you wanna. Though, I'm not too sure how it'll work if you have a different KE7 installed. Titanium backup will be useful though :)

Enjoy :D

Looks nice indeed, would go well with an owner who wears snakeskin shows and coat and hat and tie and Hunter.S.Thompson style glasses no doubt :D

Seen this app mentioned on avforums Traffic Counter Extended for someone who is having similar issue as you. he went through 80 MB in one day.
That is a really good app - the only problem is that this mystery 24mb that the system keeps uploading isn't recorded against any of the programs on the list which the app uses. Very odd indeed.

I'm going to go with a wipe but might wait until the weekend when I have plenty of time to sort it out the way I like it. If it wasn't for that upload, I think I'd pretty much be happy with the phone.

Mate said its probably some background sync but 24 mb omg. Is it network branded??
