****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

Mate said its probably some background sync but 24 mb omg. Is it network branded??
It's a Vodafone handset, but I've wiped it and got the basic KE7 running. Here's the weird bit: it only happens when I'm on cell-based net. Wifi has nothing like that. Check these stats for example, since my last wipe:

Wifi total usage: 223mb (13.6mb up and 210mb down)
Cell total usage: 240mb (232mb up and 8mb down)

I'm totally convinced that it's the upload which is now the only thing ruining my battery. I've turned off all the auto-sync'ing, but I do allow background downloading.

Actually, rather than wipe, I'm going to remove every app I have downloaded (apart from the monitor) and see what happens.

From this page, how do I know which tar file to use?

Also about this yellow triangle issue, does that involve flashing a ROM? I dont want to have to reinstall and re-configure stuff just yet (not until cyanogenmod)

If you have out ke7 from the first stage on your phone the you use the ke7 rooted kernel in that page. to get rid of the yellow triangle you take use a secure kernel listed below threads ke7 firmware in stage 1 and use that as described in stage 2 of the cf root threads

Edit: fornowagain, just seen your reply sorry. I am in doubt... so will ask... lol, whats cf-root? Is that an original kernal but rooted? Therefore you dont have to use a unsecure kernal followed by the original one after... You just flash... and "cf-root"?
That's it exactly :)

Get yourself a usb jig from the bay for a few quid. Resets the counter and removes the triangle, just plug it in.

Where do you go to see the stats for cell usage? Also.. how did you turn off all the auto-sync'ing?

Thought I'd better check before Vodafone try to charge me for using data which Im prob not aware off

fornowagain.... Cheers for clarifying :)

I use apps to monitor net usage. I used to use NetSentry, but I was just recently alerted to Traffic Counter Extended - great little app.

As for stopping auto-syncing, Menu->Settings->Accounts and sync.

I have just got my S II after having an iPhone 3G for almost three years. Absolutely love the thing! :)

hi
having problems with the battery on my galaxy. if i charge the battery from being completely dead to full charge i can use the phone from 9-6 normal usage and the battery would be at 70%. if i then charge it from 70% to 100 the following day and use it as normal the battery drains quicker and goes from 100 to about 40.

does this mean ive got a faulty battery or phone?
thanks

Cheers, will have to download that and have a look :)

Am I right in thinking as I dont use my gmail account (and set it up purely as the phone told me I needed too) that it dont matter if i disable sync? Its only syncing stuff to that isnt it?

I wondered if I had a faulty battery too. Yesterday it seemed to last forever from a full charge. Today it has died in less than half the time I'd say though I've used it less as I've actually had to do some work

Only difference is, I charged it through USB today. I know some devices can hold charge differently if getting a trickle charge, though not sure if it could be related or not? Have you noticed a difference dependent how you charged the phone?

i just changed my expiring vodafone contract to 300min unlimited txt and 500mb of data for £15 per month. you will be suprized how far 500mb goes, over the last 12 months i have not exceeded 300mb according to vodafone stats. and i use my android devices a lot! and even tether the web at work to avoid proxy's sometimes

I thought they had taken the 3gb allowance away from new/upgrading contracts and replaced it with the 500mb limit.

Jesus christ that's the only reason i was going to get it on tmobile! That sucks, i'm not sure what to do now.
Would tmobile still be a good network to go for? I live in London and would like a decent internet signal but i've never had a phone with the internet on it so don't know how much data i would use. Are their any good packages out there for £35 a month or less?

Vodafone do 1GB on some of their price plans if thats of any help. On top of that, if you go over your limit (even if on a lower price plan which only has 500mb) you pay £1 per day, for 100MB. So say you run out on the 20th, and use the net on the 21st... you'll pay £1 as long as you dont use over 100MB on that day.

Lastly you can add a pack of 500MB to your existing price plan... for £5 per month. And no........ I dont work for Vodafone before you ask lol.

I've been over 500MB many times - service stays the same and not a peep out of T-Mobile. If your going to properly hammer it every month then they will probably send you a message.

I remember back in the day... before data packs... Vodafone used to charge me £2.35 PER MB!! Fair to say my phone bills have come down a LOT since then! :D

It is a handy little program. I just wish it would identify what was using my data!

Sounds like your probably going to have to do it the hard way and either unistall all the apps you have downloaded or do a factory reset and see if it does it then. If it does then its one of the standard apps doing it, if its fine then you'll have to install your apps one at a time to see whats using all that data.
