****The Official Samsung Galaxy S II Thread***

Sounds like your probably going to have to do it the hard way and either unistall all the apps you have downloaded or do a factory reset and see if it does it then. If it does then its one of the standard apps doing it, if its fine then you'll have to install your apps one at a time to see whats using all that data.
That's what I'm trying now. I've removed a handful of apps (the ones I use least) and I'm monitoring the data usage. So far today it's been ok, but these problems seem to occur around midday. My only issue with this particlar method is the fact that I can only run so many unsuccesful tests before I get stuffed by my provider :D

I keep getting "wifi sharing" using a fairly big chunk of my data, but have never enabled it nor can i actually see where it is!

Any ideas?

Just had a read and on xda archive some people said using Kies air did it. Have you used that app?

I turn my phone off and charge it while I'm sleeping, and when it's fully charged it vibrates, which ALWAYS wakes me up. Is there any way of stopping it from doing that? It's very annoying.

I like using my Llama to stop it vibrating or lowering the sound depending where I am lol. Now I am not crazy its a free app called Llama and its awesome. Still some things that need fixing but for lowering the volume of notifications or vibrating etc its awesome.

Takes a little while to setup but I know have 3 areas setup which are home, work and cinema and when ever I get near a wifi hotspot I have saved or the recorded cell towers it switches events to what ever I have setup. So you may want a setup for nighttime which is completely silent.

Just about to order one of these now. One question though, Will T-Mobile let me change my number with the PAC code from my old phone after I've had the new contract for a month?

You can freeze it using Titanium Backup without a problem.

I'm sure I saw some kind of terminal app that you could type su in. Cant remember the name think I saw it in a youtube video.
Could you not use that as a temp root and simply mv the .apk's for the service to summit else?

Got my SGS2 yesterday, so first day with it today. Just checked my battery usage and it says wifi sharing has used 27%.

Battery now down to 76% after 4.5 hours of light usage.

Well no, kinda chicken or the egg. You need root to use superuser (su). No temp root, if you've a root then generally yeah move them where you like, but if it's an essential service don't be surprised if you get fc's. Freezing with Titanium Backup is cool (pun intended), easy to restore if you actually need it.

aye probs be better to root then and just freeze
I've still not got mine yet been uber busy at work need to make time to get to orange. Only thing I'm worried about is rooting it as there is no orange FW to flash back to atm if anything goes wrong.

That don't mean you can't get it, possibly. Grab a couple of bits of info from the computer registry from Kies and you maybe be able to download and decrypt the stock one from the Samsung server. Doesn't always work though.

I'm waiting for someone to release a fix for this using root access, but until then I've just changed my charging habits.

Charge all day at work, then again in the eve when I get home, but unplug when I go to bed.

The leftover charge is more than enough to last the night, play my alarm, and give me music and comics as I travel in to work.

Villain ROM Dev created VR Tweaks which has many tweaks you can enable, one of which is this.

I've just dropped the volume of the sound by several dBin Audacity and pushed it back into the /ui system folder so the sound is a lot quieter.
