British Grand Prix 2011, Silverstone Circuit - Race 9/19

Surely now, the FIA have to bring out some other rule to stop RBR. Should RBR finish this weekend's GP far ahead of the opposition, the FIA have got to think of another rule, which basically pulls RBR's performance back.

They have to think of a rule quickly and implement immediately afterwards.

Is it too late to ban the flexing bodywork?
 
The problem i have with the FIA is when they make a rule its written in such a way its just asking for loopholes.
I mean, take flexing wings, how hard would it of been to say "we dont want to see wings flexing 'more then normal' (ie: as much as they have for the last Xx years) , if we see it in race/quali/practice conditions then you will be punished, you have been warned"

Instead of saying "well, it passes our tests so i guess we have to allow it"
 
Got a question for locals or anyone who has been to the race in recent years. We will be parking in the cicruit so was wondering roughly how long it will take to get from Rugby to Silverstone on the sat and sun. And also does anyone have any advice for avoiding the worst of the race day traffic if possible. Never actually driven to the track myself, living in Aberdeen, in the past got train/plane down and used Taxis to get to track. So any help appreciated.

The ban on exhaust mappings for off throttle throttle was announced over a week before the Spanish GP. That means that this has been in the pipeline for almost 2 months, and yet this 'requirement' by the Renault engines, and 'characteristic' of the Merc engines only comes to light on the day the ban takes effect!

The teams are all as bad as each other throwing poo at each other, and the FIA are completely incompetent and have shown they seem to have very little grasp on what is actually technically going on within F1 cars!

We have gone from everyone thinking, with no proof, that RBR had an advantage, to a situation where the FIA have officially given them, and the other Renault engine teams a written and legislated advantage!

Why? Because we are doing a better job than the "proper" teams?
 
The solution has always been bloody obvious, why can't the FIA just ensure all teams Exhausts exit the bodywork?

No. Up until now you have simply been doing a better job, but now you have been given a definitive advantage.

They changed the layout to get world class bike racing, which in turn has brought extended funding to the track and allowed Silverstone to build the new pit buildings and all the other facilities.
 
As opposed to the BHP advantage Merc cars have had since the engine freeze? Were we supposed to just sit and not find a solution to that? We tried to get a Merc unit but, Whitmarsh made sure that would not happen, now its their turn to find a solution.

Yup, I'm just amazed that they haven't done it this year. It would have been solved by now, maybe the FIA need to read a little more into things, from where I'm sitting they seem to know less than I do.

I'd just like to add that Nuts, please don't be offended by anything I type. None of it is a dig at you, It's just pure frustration that Red Bull seem to be running away with a Championship in which the advantage is just too great. I love my weekend of F1. But it has just become so predictable it's unreal. Canada was a ray of hope but it sure wore off quick.

Seriously chaps, although the FIA have handled this pretty poorly several times this year, this isn't so different to many other F1 seasons. I'm a McLaren fan, but you have to stand back and admire what Red Bull have created.

For me, they've taken preparation for winning in F1 to a whole new level. They have a nursery team. They developed a blend of tactics and car design which plays to the strengths of their main driver and is quick in the right places to win races. Not be the best overall car or be the fastest in a straight line - pure and simply win races.

They're making the other teams approach look like they just try and build a quick car and the only adaptation they make for the driver is to change the seat. It might not make for entertaining racing, but I doubt that was high up on Newey's agenda when he joined the team.

Someone on twitter asked Heki (follow him hes good) if he likes the new layout and as blunt as hell he said no they totally ruined it.
 
I know that mate :D I dont take offence to anything on here otherwise i would'nt bother coming on. We are just trying to do the best job with what we have.

how do you know merc actually have a BHP advantage?

I don't mean anything as a personal attack on you, my view is I'd rather see a close season with Vettel win than the FIA screw around with regs and eliminate the closest competition.

2 races ago (Canada), Button hunted down Vettel like a rabid animal and passed him.
3 races ago (Monaco), Alonso was right on Vettel's tail and harassing him.
4 races ago (China), Hamilton hauled Vettel in and passed him.

I think you are doing F1 a disservice when you say that it is predictable.

The problem is that Vettel is just too damn good this season and is always performing to the maximum that his car allows. Meanwhile Alonso and Hamilton (when they have a faster car), are getting involved in incidents.

Following the new ruling, it might become predictable, but we have got to wait and see. There may be a further twist in this tale.
