You have no problem with diving? Sorry but thats just retarded, he wasn't highlighting anything, he was trying to make the contact look worse nothing more or less.
Gervinho, even if he did try and make the contact for the penalty look worse, I really can't tell, did it in the spur of the moment, an impulse. Barton both, grabbed someone with a few seconds gap, continued to hold on to him, took barely a tap to the face, waited a second then chose to dive, then he chose to go around to the ref, to RVP, to a bunch of other players and LIE that he had taken a bad punch to the face.
IF you consider Gervinho cheated, he did it once, he was than assaulted and reacted, he shouldn't have but Barton was not letting him go either, don't forget Barton grabbed him, in a VERY agressive manor and continued to do so, he didn't release him, this was in no way an unprovoked slap. Barton cheated, then cheated, again, then cheated again and continued to lie and cheat and behave unprofessionally. We're talking minutes later he's still telling people Gervinho punched him hard, then he goes on after the game, and on twitter, still lying and cheating.
To say you can understand Barton going down is truly pathetic.
There is actually a point where I've always wondered, should a player always be sent off for hitting someone. In every other part of society self defence is completely fine, if someone tries to kill you, you can kill them and be deemed to have done nothing wrong, thats fine.
If someone on the pitch repeatedly punched you, and you punched them to stop them, you would get a red card aswell, I've thought that in itself is madness for a long while now. Should Gervinho be red carded if he did that unprovoked for no reason, yes, should he get a red card for Barton grabbing him and refusing to release him? By the rules as they stand, yes, but should the rules be like that, why is self defence not taken into account in any way?
