I thought Siri was an app, that does the processing on the phone, and retrieves certain data online, if needed.

Example 1
"Play back in black by AC/DC" requires no data as the phone knows what I mean and plays the album from the music library

Example 2
"What is 300 miles in inches?" requires a data connection as the phone has to send the request to Wolfram Alpha, and then it will speak the result.

I think you are assuming that this is a server app, and the phone is streaming the voice to you every time you ask it something :p
 
Yes, that's what I'm assuming. Voice is sent to the server, which does the natural language processing and then the result is sent back to the phone. Like how Shazam works for music.

I guess we'll find out on Friday. :)
 
I have a 3g at the moment, so looking to get either a 4 or 4S soon. Will the 4 (non-S) drop in price with the new phones release? If so how big was the drop with previous releases?

I`m sure ill see a big jump to either the 4 or the 4S so if there was a big saving i could be happy with the 4.
 
I got a 4. I looked at the 4S and I have to say I considered it. Then I just thought sod it, my 4 is great does everything I want it to. Ok there is some nice improvements on the 4S like better camera and faster processor.

I'm just going to hold out till the 5 comes along :)
 
Hoping we might receive before Friday. According to 9to5 Mac Sprint customers in the USA are receiving shipping notifications with next day delivery. AT&T have moved there status from back order to warehouse processing.

So you never know.......
 
They have to have it well orchestrated, it's not like they can just call up a courier and say, "Hi, it's Apple, we have hundreds of thousands of phones that need picking up Friday."

As has been pointed out already in this thread, they will start shipping them out with the courier but with the caveat to hold until Friday.
