Red arrow incident

BBC showing photos of 4 jets and it looks like the front part of the canopy is broken on one. It looks like they weren't even moved off the apron. You'd never expect that to happen before you even move. Shocking.

I cant remember if the whole canopy pops off on a T1, or just smashes the canopy glass. Edit..ignore me..it does smash the glass instead of popping the whole canopy, i get confused with all the different types.

The Hawk has explosive charge lines in the canopy glass which are designed to shatter it when the ejection handle is pulled, so as to avoid a Goose-from-Top Gun type incident from occurring.

As far as I know the seats in the Hawk T1 (Mk10) are zero/zero rated, so if it was parked up on on the flight line it should still have been within design parameters. It must've been a bad malfunction for it to fire 'on the line' parked up like that.

Thoughts with the family :(

Something which just entered my mind...If it was on the line and fired, is there a chance he wouldnt of been completley strapped in at that point, resulting in more serious injuries..im just thinking out loud.

If the canopy was closed and the jet was running then he should have been strapped in, but it is possible he wasn't stapped in if he'd just closed the canopy straight away due to the weather etc.

Scorch marks: The side of the plane appears blackened, suggesting marks left when the canopy was blasted off.

Could the canopy explosive gone off without the seat being fired?

Can't see if the seat is in there in that photo or not
