Are you for real? It's the job of the press to scrutinise the appointment and give their views. If they don't think that Hodgson should have got the job or they think that Redknapp should have then they say so. It's hardly disgusting.

And I can say what I did when there's plenty of posts in this very thread along the lines of "at least it's not Redknapp".

Hahaha. Ok Baz, of course there is nothing wrong with slating a national manager before he's accepted the job.

Whatever happened to supporting the national team manager! :)

Again, it's hard to have a discussion with Liverpool fans about the merits of Woy because of their biased against him.

I dont dislike Arry, on the whole he's done a great job at Spurs, I dont think you can overlook how rubbish they've been since the turn of the year though (once the England job became vacant) and the on field decisions Arry's made during that time; trying to make Bale into Ronaldo, playing their best CM on the left wing etc etc

That wasn't aimed at you but as per my last post, several people have openly said they're happy Hodgson got it simply because he's not Redknapp. Because of the love Redknapp gets in the press, a section of football supporters love to hate him (paticularly on forums and twitter).

On his job with Spurs, it's been far from perfect but for Spurs to be sitting 4th with 3 games to go is a great achievement and like I said last night, it's probably a greater achievement than finishing 4th the other season.

there was a bloke on the news (someone perryman) from the fans association who summed it up best by saying that if he is appointed, expecations will fall. well, what were the expectations before, no matter who was in charge? is he saying the may aswell not bother getting on the plane?

Show me what you consider to be the press slating Hodgson.

Rather than say something stupid like that, try discussing the merits of Hodgson with me. I've not been rude, personal or listed 10 reasons why I hate Roy Hodgson in this thread. I think I've given a reasoned argument on why I don't think he should be England manager. I'm pretty sure that's all I ever done when he was Liverpool manager too.

Arsenal are 3rd tbf, we have been dog poop for most of the season, finishing 4th isn't much to be proud of. I don't even feel good about finishing 3rd, just proves that the rest of the teams competing are poor and completely undeserving of Champions League football

I'm only defensive of him in the face of unfair abuse. I don't think he's particularly good, but he's not nearly as bad as most Liverpool fans think. Certainly a better choice than 'arry too

Are football fans this fickle or has something drastic changed? A couple of months ago, nearly 40% of people that voted on here thought Redknapp should be the next England manager and less than 2% voted for Hodgson :/

Its such a shame the results of that cannot be seen as public, I imagine there are a few here now talking a different tune to how they voted.

I voted Mourinho when the topic was current.

Would still love to see it, but I don't think even Mourinho could turn our bunch if idiots into a cup winning side.

The press bandwagon argument is reasonable but applies just as much to Hodgson (debating the merits of winning the Swedish league).

As simple as the debate between the two can be put, Hodgson has left being "head coach" of West Brom when Redknapp would have left being "manager" of Spurs.

England need a "head coach", someone who can mould and train the team into as team that might actually do something sensible, not a manager who will just pick the team and shout when it doesn't work.

Redknapp's track record of being a football manager (in the last 10 years or so at least) is use his reputation to buy players of a reputation to fill a role (regardless of financial constraints). He must know that the way Spurs is set up means for the rest of his career no one will find out that he doesn't really know what he's doing (other than playing champ manager 02, real life edition).

Hodgson is the type of manager who, at very least, will have some understanding to make the most of what he has and try and get the best out of them (even if he doesn't have a huge amount of charisma)

Voted Hodgson...its not like hes going to win us the Euro or WC anytime soon but then i dont know of any manager that could possibly turn the England squad into a bunch of world beaters. Even the Moaning one would have a job and pretty sure Pep from Barca would as well.

Hope Hodgson does well, hes a nice guy and a decent manager...well as people have said, not for the Liverpool fans:p

I agree that no England manager would win this time round.

As a Liverpool fan, what upset me most about Hodgson was his defeatist attitude and endless public criticism of players. It achieved nothing but to destroy morale when morale was already at rock bottom. His tactics were also questionable.

The England manager isn't like club management. You need to be able to inspire players in a relatively short space of time. Hodgson is a very uninspiring man, or at least that's the way it comes across. He'll also struggle with media criticism.

The one thing he does bring which I think could work in his favor is he's a very fair manager. He'll look at all the players on their merits and give new players a chance. Players will not be able to use their club status to take a place in the England team for granted.

For 2012 Harry would have been a much better choice. Long term, I'm not so sure.

I've given you an example, the match of the day discussion from the previous evening. Dismissing Woy before he's given the job, saying that 'Arry was the obvious / correct choice. The viewers watching these shows are huge, they of course infleunce public opinion.

The press for a long time have put their stall out saying 'Arry is the right man for the job, of course, undermineing whomever gets the job and making their life / job even more difficult then it already will be.

This is acceptable from the press though?

People talk about 'trial' by media and it being unfair, yet this is what's happened here and it's okay because that's what the press should do?

Why? You're views are set in stone, they won't change. You're unable to look at this from an unbaised point of view after what he's done at Liverpool.

Dalglish's league form over the last 20 games is worse than Hodgson's was.

Hodgson
P20 W7 D4 L9

Dalglish (last 20 league fixtures)
P20 W6 D5 L9

So is safe to say the cup runs and/or fan loyalty to Dalglish is what is keeping him in a job at the moment? would Liverpool fans be wanting Dalglish out now if Liverpool had not done so well in the domestic cups?
